Innovative UniSim Operator Training Solution Selected to Improve Operations for Kuwait Paraxylene Production Company

KUWAIT, April 23, 2008 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today announced it has been selected to design, configure and install its UniSim® Operations suite for Kuwait Paraxylene Production Company's aromatics plant in Shuaiba, Kuwait. The KPPC plant, which produces benzene and para-xylene, is operated by EQUATE Petrochemical Company K.S.C.

The UniSim Operations suite is a dynamic simulation engine designed to train operators and maintenance personnel in process industries. The solution enables plant operators to learn a new system before commissioning and enables quick training for new employees. In addition, the UniSim Operations suite provides capabilities for control system checkout. Collectively, these benefits can result in safer, more reliable plant operations, enhanced productivity and improved business performance.

The UniSim Operations suite-based solution for the KPPC plant also includes embedded UOP reactor models that take the dependability of the simulator to a higher level. UOP, a Honeywell company, is a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, equipment and consulting services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical and gas processing industries.

"While operations at plants have evolved considerably, they have also become more complex," said Ali Ghuloom Ahmad, Leader, Aromatics Plant, EQUATE. "Honeywell's UniSim Operations suite, embedded with the UOP reactor models and integrated with the Experion® platform, will provide operator training on realistic simulations of the plant. This translates to superior operator training simulator performance at a lower total cost of ownership."

"The region is witnessing a growth in aromatic complexes and therefore a rising demand for operator training simulators, especially for start-up projects," said Mohammed Mahmoud, Kuwait Country Leader, Honeywell Process Solutions. "While the objectives of an operator training program may vary according to the lifecycle of a plant, the aim is to thoroughly and quickly train new operators on highly realistic simulations of plant processes so they are fully qualified before start-up. Well-trained staff is an essential requirement for success, and Honeywell is committed to providing a comprehensive suite of advanced solutions to help its customers retain a competitive edge."
