Georgia-Pacific Gypsum Expert to Speak on Heightened Importance of Gypsum Roofing Cover Boards at IRE Presentation

Industry Leader Georgia-Pacific Gypsum to Discuss How Fiberglass Mat Gypsum Cover Boards Contribute to Durability and Versatility of Commercial Roofing Systems

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 15, 2011 - Gambling may be good in Las Vegas, but it is extremely risky in the roofing business - especially given the increased use of roofs as platforms for numerous alternative energy systems. That is why Georgia-Pacific Gypsum roofing assemblies expert Reinhard Schneider, AIA, RCI, CSI, will speak here this week on the importance of fiberglass mat gypsum cover boards in ensuring the durability and sustainability of commercial roofs.

Schneider's International Roofing Expo presentation -"DensDeck® Roof Boards-Versatile and Durable for any Roofing System" will take place on Thursday, February 17, at 3 p.m., in the Renewable Energy Pavilion. It will focus on why durability matters for alternative energy systems and how DensDeck Roof Boards counteract the forces that adversely affect roofing durability (fire, wind uplift, hail impact, foot traffic, water intrusion and sound).

According to Schneider, the physical demands on roofing systems have increased in recent years due to the expanded use of alternative energy systems in commercial buildings. As a result, energy-efficient solutions such as photovoltaic, reflective and vegetative roofs can stress traditional roofing systems unless they are coupled with appropriate cover boards. DensDeck® Roof Boards can be utilized in a wide variety of roofing systems for new and re-roofing applications as cover boards, overlayments and underlayments.

"Cover boards are extremely important, as they maintain the strength, durability and sustainability of roofing systems," explained Schneider, also DensDeck technical manager for Georgia-Pacific Gypsum. "Choosing the right cover board will protect your investment, simply because the roof will perform better and last longer."

Georgia-Pacific Gypsum - an innovator in the development and use of fiberglass mat-based gypsum panels for nearly 25 years - is a leader in the manufacture of roof boards in the U.S. and Canada. In 2010, the company announced that independent tests confirmed its assembly for retrofitting lightweight commercial roof systems with DensDeck Roof Boards can also reduce sound penetration through the roof by more than 50 percent.
