Steinberg, professor of built environment and engineering in the School of Engineering Systems at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, has received the 2011 Professor of the Year Award from ASTM International. A member of ASTM International since 1994, Dr. Steinberg has consistently promoted the value of ASTM standards and products in lectures, tutorials, and laboratory work during his career in academia.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -Dr. Theodore A. Steinberg, professor of built environment and engineering in the School of Engineering Systems at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, has received the 2011 Professor of the Year Award from ASTM International. The ASTM Professor of the Year Award recognizes and rewards the contributions of educators in developing students' understanding of standards.

This year's Professor of the Year Award is part of the 2011 ASTM International "Jumpstart Your Career" campaign, which is aimed at expanding student knowledge and involvement in the diverse field of standards and features ASTM student membership opportunities, senior design project grants, a student video contest, scholarships and more.

A member of ASTM International since 1994, Dr. Steinberg is a member of Committee G04 on Compatibility and Sensitivity of Materials in Oxygen Enriched Atmospheres. He is chairman of Subcommittee G04.92 on Research and works on several G04 subcommittees. He has served as chair or co-chair of five G04 symposia and as editor/co-editor of five ASTM Special Technical Publications, and he sits on the Editorial Board of the Journal of ASTM International (JAI).

Dr. Steinberg holds a bachelor's degree and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, N.M. He began his career at Lockheed Engineering & Sciences Co., NASA Johnson Space Center's White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces, N.M., where he held the position of principal engineer from 1987 to 1993. During this time, he was also an adjunct professor at both the University of Colorado at Boulder and New Mexico State University. He became a lecturer at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1993, and in 2005 he joined the faculty at the Queensland University of Technology, where he is currently a professor and oversees the university's Phenomena in Microgravity Laboratory.

During his career in academia, Dr. Steinberg has consistently promoted the value of ASTM International standards and products in lectures, tutorials and laboratory work. Today, there are over 5,000 ASTM student members from more than 70 countries who take advantage of the opportunity to be involved with ASTM while completing their undergraduate and graduate degrees.
