Press release date: June 9, 2010

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - Papers are invited for the Ninth International Symposium on Bearing Steel Technologies: Advances in Rolling Contact Fatigue Strength Testing and Related Substitute Technologies, to be held Nov. 17-18, 2011, at the Tampa Marriott Waterside in Tampa, Fla. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, the meetings will be held in conjunction with the Nov.14-17 standards development meetings of the committee.

Numerous methodologies exist for direct, or substitute, rolling contact fatigue testing for quality assurance and equivalence testing. Papers reviewing the user experience of various tests or substitute test methods as well as original work papers on the subject will be welcome. In addition, papers dealing with the treatment of the statistical nature of the rolling contact fatigue process are particularly encouraged.

The international nature of the ASTM bearing steel symposia makes them a unique forum for the presentation and discussion of global bearing steel technologies. Papers for the Ninth International Symposium on Bearing Steel Technologies are solicited on, but not limited to, the following topics:

Advances in the understanding of the rolling contact fatigue process and related test methods for automotive, off-highway, aerospace, railway, wind energy, etc.;
Material testing, accelerated rolling contact fatigue testing;
Substitute test methods, such as metallographic, X-ray diffraction, ultrasonic testing etc.;
Advances in full bearing rolling contact fatigue test methods and application condition simulation; and
Development in the understanding of the statistics of rolling contact fatigue testing.

Interested presenters/authors must submit a 250-300 word abstract by Nov. 1, 2010, online at www.astm.org/A01symp1111.htm. You will be notified by Jan. 15, 2011, of your paper's acceptability for presentation. Symposium presenters are required to submit their papers to the Journal of ASTM International (JAI). JAI is an online, peer-reviewed journal for the international scientific and engineering community (www.astm.org/JAI).

Visit the symposium home page on the ASTM Web site (www.astm.org/A01symp1111.htm) for more information. For additional technical information, contact symposium chair John Beswick, SKF Business & Technology Park, Nieuwegein, the Netherlands (phone: +011-31-30-60 75722; john.beswick@skf.com).
