W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., August 21, 2009 - Papers are invited for the ASTM International Symposium on Surface and Dermal Sampling, which will be held Oct. 14-15, 2010, at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. Sponsored by ASTM Committee D22 on Air Quality and its Subcommittee D22.04 on Workplace Air Quality, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the Oct. 10-13 standards development meetings of the committee.
The first day of the symposium will feature papers submitted for publication in the peer-reviewed Journal of ASTM International. The second day will feature presentations that will not be published in an ASTM peer-reviewed publication, allowing for open discussion of current issues. This unique format is intended to encourage a maximum level of participation while also contributing to the body of published research.
Papers/presentations are solicited on, but not limited to, the following topics:
o Surface and dermal sampling protocols;
o Samplers and sample collection media;
o Target analytes-chemical, biological and radiation hazards, and dermal sensitizers;
o Application of surface and dermal monitoring techniques to real-world problems;
o Safety, health and risk assessment;
o Quality assurance and method performance; and
o Policy issues relating to surface and dermal monitoring.
To participate in the symposium, presenters/authors must submit the online abstract submittal form at www.astm.org/d22symp1010.htm and attach a 250-300 word preliminary abstract by Jan. 14, 2010. The abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published. The symposium co-chairs will notify you by March 14, 2010, of your paper's acceptability for presentation.
Symposium presenters are required to submit their papers to the Journal of ASTM International (JAI), unless symposium co-chairs specifically grant permission to give a presentation without a manuscript being submitted. JAI is an online, peer-reviewed journal for the international scientific and engineering community (www.astm.org/JAI). Manuscripts to be peer reviewed for JAI are due online by Oct. 14, 2010. Once the final selection of abstracts is approved, ASTM will send authors' instructions via e-mail. The author will receive a copy of his/her paper in a PDF.
