ASTM Geotechnical Testing Journal: Innovations in Characterizing the Mechanical and Hydrological Properties of Unsaturated Soils, will be held June 25. Workshop will discuss papers that were published in GTJ, which focused on soil-water retention curve and hydraulic conductivity, thermal properties, coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical properties, instrumentation and sensors as well as shear strength, volume change behavior, and dynamic properties of unsaturated soils.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -A workshop ASTM Geotechnical Testing Journal: Innovations in Characterizing the Mechanical and Hydrological Properties of Unsaturated Soils, will be held June 25 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, San Diego, Calif. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee D18 on Soil and Rock, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the June standards development meetings of the committee. ASTM Subcommittee D18.04 on Hydraulic Barriers and Hydrologic Properties of Soils, in collaboration with the Geo-Institute of ASCE Unsaturated Soils Committee, organized a special double issue of the ASTM Geotechnical Testing Journal (Volume 34, Issue #5 and Volume 35, Issue #1). The workshop will discuss the papers that were published in the GTJ, which focused on innovations in measurement of the mechanical and hydrological properties of unsaturated soils, including: o Soil-water retention curve and hydraulic conductivity of unsaturated soils;
o Thermal properties of unsaturated soils;
o Coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical properties of unsaturated soils;
o Instrumentation and sensors for unsaturated soils;
o Experimental characterization of stress state in unsaturated soils;
o Shear strength of unsaturated soils;
o Volume change behavior of unsaturated soils; and
o Dynamic properties (e.g., shear modulus and damping, resilient modulus) of unsaturated soils. Online registration is now open and closes June 20. There is no fee to attend this workshop.
