ASTM Plastic Piping Systems Committee honors Larry Petroff.

August 15, 2012 - ASTM International Committee F17 on Plastic Piping Systems has presented Frank W. Reinhart and Henry Kuhlmann Award to Larry Petroff, a consultant based near Athens, GA, for his outstanding contributions to plastic pipe standardization. A member of ASTM since 1983, Petroff works on multiple F17 subcommittees and is past secretary of F17.26 on Olefin Based Pipe. Petroff was a technical specialist at Performance Pipe, a division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. LP, for more than 30 years.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -ASTM International Committee F17 on Plastic Piping Systems has presented the Frank W. Reinhart and Henry Kuhlmann Award to Larry Petroff, a consultant based near Athens, Ga., for his outstanding contributions to plastic pipe standardization.

A member of ASTM International since 1983, Petroff works on multiple F17 subcommittees and is a past secretary of F17.26 on Olefin Based Pipe. He has received other awards from the committee, including the ASTM Award of Merit and title of fellow in 2006, the Paul Finn Memorial Award in 2003 and a Special Service Award in 1999. In addition to F17, Petroff is a member of Committees D20 on Plastics and F36 on Technology and Underground Utilities.

A registered professional engineer, Petroff was a technical specialist at Performance Pipe, a division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. LP, in Plano, Texas, for more than 30 years until his retirement in 2011. Prior to Plano, he was a technical services engineer at Smith Fiberglass Products in Little Rock, Ark. He specializes in the design and installation of plastic pipe and subsurface pipe, and has published more than 20 papers on the subject. Petroff was also one of the contributors to the Handbook of PE Pipe, published by the Plastics Pipe Institute.

Outside ASTM International, Petroff is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Water Works Association. A graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he received a bachelor's degree in mathematics, Petroff also holds master's degrees in civil engineering from the University of Arkansas and in geotechnical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
