ASTM International presents Award of Merit to Lance R. Lewand.

June 19, 2012 - Lance R. Lewand, director of Insulating Materials Laboratory at Doble Engineering Co., Watertown, MA, has received Award of Merit and title of fellow from ASTM International Committee D27 on Electrical Insulating Liquids and Gases. A member of ASTM since 1989, Lewand works on several D27 subcommittees and is chairman of Subcommittee D27.06 on Chemical Test. He is a graduate of St. Mary's College of Maryland, where he received a bachelor's degree in biology.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -Lance R. Lewand, director of the Insulating Materials Laboratory at Doble Engineering Co., Watertown, Mass., has received the Award of Merit and title of fellow from ASTM International Committee D27 on Electrical Insulating Liquids and Gases. The Award of Merit is ASTM's highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.

A member of ASTM International since 1989, Lewand works on several D27 subcommittees and is chairman of Subcommittee D27.06 on Chemical Test. The committee recognized his contributions with the Charles A. Johnson Award in 2008.

A graduate of St. Mary's College of Maryland, St. Mary's City, Md., where he received a bachelor's degree in biology, Lewand was a project leader and project manager of fluid testing at MET Electrical Testing Co. in Baltimore, Md., before joining Doble Engineering Co. in 1992 as a chemist. He was promoted to project manager and then research and materials laboratory manager before assuming his current role in 2009. As director of the Insulating Materials Laboratory, Lewand supervises all laboratory testing, analytical test development, quality control, quality assurance and research functions.

Outside ASTM International, Lewand is a member of the American Chemical Society, TAPPI, the U.S. National Committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission TC 10, Fluids for Electrotechnical Applications, and the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to International Standards Organization TC28 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants. He has written numerous technical papers on testing and sampling of electrical insulating materials and associated diagnostics.
