ASTM International Training Course to Focus on Marine Fuels



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.-Marine Fuels: Specifications, Testing, Purchase and Use, a three-day technical and professional training course sponsored by ASTM International, focuses on how the properties of marine fuels affect fuel handling, combustion and cost. The course will be held May 8-10, 2012 in New Orleans, La., and Sept. 25-27, in San Francisco, Calif.

Topics include methods of manufacture and blending of various grades; effects of crude source and manufacturing on fuel properties; commercial practices in purchase, delivery and dispute resolution; standard specifications used in purchasing; storage, handling and pre-treatment equipment and practices; and operation and functioning of Diesel Engines and Boilers that operate on marine fuel. New Parameters included in ISO 8217: 2010 Marine Fuel Specifications will be addressed. IMO, EU & CARB current and future sulfur restrictions will be addressed. The course will feature an inspection tour of a marine-fuel laboratory.

The course is intended for laboratory supervisors, shipping company employees and anyone dealing with the sale, purchase, trade, or use of marine fuels who need to obtain a detailed understanding of fuel quality requirements and why they are necessary for good handling and combustion performance.
