ASTM International Fatigue and Fracture Committee Sponsors Workshop on New Sensor Technologies
W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., - A workshop on New Sensor Technologies and Issues with Existing Sensor Technologies for Fatigue, Fracture and Mechanical Testing will be held Nov. 16, 2011, at the Marriott Waterside in Tampa, Fla. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the November standards development meetings of the committee.
Sensors are used in fatigue, fracture and mechanical testing to measure a variety of properties that are subject to ASTM standards. This workshop is intended to provide a forum to promote discourse and disseminate state-of-the-art advances in sensor technology as it applies to fatigue, fracture and mechanical testing, as well as present the limitations of existing sensor technology as it applies to fatigue, fracture and mechanical testing.
The workshop is an opportunity to learn about both new and issues with existing sensor technology as applicable to ASTM fatigue, fracture or mechanical testing standards.
Presentations will be given in the following areas:
o Strain measurement at elevated temperatures;
o Strain measurements in composite materials;
o Non-contact video strain measurements;
o Advanced eddy current sensors for crack length determination;
o Application of strain measurements to determine crack length;
o Progress in developing fatigue crack standards; and
o Issues with application of COD gages in fatigue and fracture testing.
Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the workshop and closes Nov. 9. The fee to attend the workshop for ASTM members, session chairs and presenters is $50 USD for online registration and $75 USD for onsite registration. The fee for non-ASTM members is $75 USD for online registration and $100 USD for onsite registration There is no fee for students with a valid ID.
