ASTM Committee Honors Stephen Luko with Harold F. Dodge Award.

September 21, 2012 - ASTM International Committee E11 on Quality and Statistics presented Stephen Luko, statistician at United Technologies Aerospace Systems in Windsor Locks, CT, with Harold F. Dodge Award for work in applied statistics. ASTM International member since 1999, Luko works on several E11 subcommittees and chairs Subcommittee E11.30 on Statistical Quality Control. He has received E11 Award of Appreciation 3 times and was honored with ASTM Award of Merit and title of fellow in 2009.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.-ASTM International Committee E11 on Quality and Statistics has presented the Harold F. Dodge Award to Stephen Luko, statistician at United Technologies Aerospace Systems in Windsor Locks, Conn. Luko was honored for his outstanding work in the field of applied statistics.

A member of ASTM International since 1999, Luko works on several E11 subcommittees and chairs Subcommittee E11.30 on Statistical Quality Control. He has received the E11 Award of Appreciation three times and was honored with the ASTM Award of Merit and title of fellow in 2009.

A graduate of Central Connecticut State University were he earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in mathematics, Luko began his career at the Johnson & Johnson Co. in Southington, Conn., as a scientist. He then worked as a statistician at the Torrington Co., Torrington, Conn., and at Pratt & Whitney, East Hartford, Conn., before assuming his role at UTC Aerospace in 2010. He has served as an adjunct professor in the department of mathematics at Tunxis Community College, Farmington, Conn., since 1989.

In addition to ASTM International, Luko is a member of the American Society for Quality, where he was awarded the Dorian Shainin Medal in 2009, the American Statistical Association and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
