ASABE adopts international standard on hitch ring dimensions.

March 1, 2011 - ASABE/ISO 21244:2008 (JAN2011), Agricultural equipment - Mechanical connections between towed and towing vehicles - Implement hitch rings and attachment to tractor drawbars, contains no deviations from ISO document. Adoption follows 2009 withdrawal of ASAE S482, Drawbars - Agricultural Wheel Tractors, and the 2009 adoption with deviations of ISO 6489-3, ANSI/ASABE AD 6489-3:2004. Together these actions provide appropriate guidance to manufactures designing tractor to implement hitches.

ST JOSEPH, MICHIGAN- The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has adopted international standard ISO 21244:2008, Agricultural equipment - Mechanical connections between towed and towing vehicles - Implement hitch rings and attachment to tractor drawbars.

The ASABE document, ASABE/ISO 21244:2008 (JAN2011), Agricultural equipment - Mechanical connections between towed and towing vehicles - Implement hitch rings and attachment to tractor drawbars, is an identical adoption, meaning that it contains no deviations from the ISO document. The adoption follows the 2009 withdrawal of ASAE S482, Drawbars - Agricultural Wheel Tractors, and the 2009 adoption with deviations of ISO 6489-3, ANSI/ASABE AD 6489-3:2004, Agricultural vehicles - Mechanical connections between towed and towing vehicles - Part 3: Tractor drawbar. Together these actions provide appropriate guidance to manufactures designing tractor to implement hitches. The adoption further harmonizes national and international standardization, a goal that facilitates manufacturing, safety advancements and product marketing worldwide.
