ASABE Adopts International Standard for 80 MM Ball-Type Coupling Device
ST JOSEPH, MICHIGAN- The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has adopted without deviations the international standard ISO 24347, Agricultural vehicles - Mechanical connections between towed and towing vehicles - Dimensions of ball-type coupling device (80 mm).
The ASABE document, ASABE/ISO 24347:2005, Agricultural vehicles - Mechanical connections between towed and towing vehicles - Dimensions of ball-type coupling device (80 mm), a new connection type to north America that is recognized in the international market place as an accepted connection for higher-speed applications. The standard gives the dimension and location of a ball-type coupling device of 80 mm nominal diameter, whose male part is fitted to an agricultural towing vehicle and whose female part is fitted to a towed vehicle. It applies to both balanced and non-balanced vehicles on which the static, downward vertical load does not exceed 40 kN (9000 lbs.)

It will, however, be included in the 2010 Standards Book and CD compilations.
