Cable for GigE Vision(TM)
This paper details the cable requirements for vision systems implementing Gig E Vision standard. The GigE vision standard released in June 2006 by Automated Imaging Association (AIA) provides a unique vision system which is more cost-effective than USB 2.0, 1394b and Camera Link, and optimizes network performance. A list of essential GigE Vision cable attributes is provided together with limitations of using traditional category cables like Cat5, 5e, 6, or 6a cables with GigE Vision in a factory or other environments with an in-motion apparatus. A list of currently defined areas and applications which cannot be met by the traditional cables is provided. High-flex cable design considerations and its limitations are elaborated. The paper explains the need for incorporating various cable types to meet all potential installation requirements of Gig E Vision standard.
