Tamron Announces Remarkably Versatile 1/3" 2.8 - 12mm Aspherical Vari-Focal

New Tamron 2.8-12mm F/1.4 Vari-Focal Offers Multitude of Solutions

Commack, New York, September 1, 2001: Tamron USA, Inc. announced its most versatile Vari-Focal lens yet: Tamron 1/3" 2.8-12mm F/1.4 Vari-Focal. This new lens from Tamron, the pioneer of the Vari-Focal lens, redefines the standard for the CCTV industry. From extremely wideangle to telephoto, this one lens can be used in nearly all CCTV applications. Among its key features, the Tamron 2.8-12mm offers Aspherical Optical Technology, fast F/1.4 aperture, and locking mechanisms on the zoom, iris and focus rings.

Sharper image quality is achieved through Tamron's use of an Aspherical element. This enhances the overall performance by eliminating image distortion and providing superb corner-to-corner sharpness. Aspherical technology has been successfully part of the Tamron formula since the popular 2.8-6mm Vari-Focal was released in 1995. Not only do Aspherics improve optical performance; Aspherics also allow lenses to be more compact since one Aspherical element can take the place of two.

The new 2.8-12mm Vari-Focal is extremely compact for its focal range. At only 2.2" long, the lens is an ideal one for installation in today's compact camera housings. The maximum diameter of the lens is a mere 1.57"

From low light to very bright light, the 2.8-12mm performs superbly. The fast F/1.4 -360 aperture (Auto Iris version) of the 2.8-12mm makes the lens desirable for use in applications where extreme lighting conditions may pose a problem with ordinary lenses.

Adding to the versatility and performance of the lens are convenient locking mechanisms that ensure stability of distance (zoom lock), brightness (iris lock) and picture sharpness (focus lock). The lens is well suited for use in applications where wind or vibration is a factor in selecting equipment to install.

Lastly, Tamron offers the installer a selection of 1/3" CS-mount iris types: Manual Iris, DC Auto Iris and Video Auto Iris. Like all Tamron auto-iris version Vari-Focals, the 2.8-12mm comes with a square four-pin connector pre-attached for installer convenience.

The Tamron 1/3" 2.8-12mm F/1.4 Varn-Focal is available at a list price of $104.00 for the manual iris version, $228.00 for the Video Auto Iris and $154.00 for the DC Auto Iris version.
