Zero Delay Buffers offer clock multiplexing capabilities.

Press Release Summary:

Phase locked-loop based Models XRK32308 and XRK32309 can take input clock signal and distribute it as multiple clock signals with zero input-output propagation delay. Dual bank Model XRK32308 provides 8 copies of input clock with zero delay and can support multiple elements on line card that require different variations of master clock. Supporting CPU and PCI bus frequencies, Model XRK32309 has 2 banks, each with 4 outputs and additional buffered clock output.

Exar Announces Highly Flexible Multi-Mode Zero Delay Buffers (ZDB) - Third ZDB Family Added to Clock Portfolio

Fremont, California, May 15, 2006 - Exar Corporation (Nasdaq: EXAR), a leading provider of high-performance, mixed-signal silicon solutions for the worldwide communications infrastructure added two ZDB devices to its growing clock and timing portfolio -- the XRK32308 and XRK32309 -- representing Exar's third ZDB family. These new ICs support a broad range of applications requiring high speed, low jitter clock distribution including data communication switch and routers, servers, set top boxes, plasma displays, as well as others.

"The addition of the XRK32308 and XRK32309 demonstrates Exar's continuing commitment to this market and as a broad supplier of timing solutions that support a growing variety of key industry segments," said Bahram Ghaderi, vice president and general manager, Network and Transmission Products Division. "Exar's timing products now have more features and functionality to address our customers' design requirements."

These devices are phase locked-loop (PLL) based buffers that can take an input clock signal and distribute it as multiple clock signals with zero input-output propagation delay and very low skew between the outputs. The XRK32308 is a dual bank ZDB that provides eight copies of an input clock with zero delay. Additionally, the device is available in different configurations that provide various output frequencies and output drive strengths. Thus, the XRK32308 can support multiple elements on a line card that require different variations of the master clock. The XRK32309 has two banks, each with four outputs, and an additional buffered clock output. The device can
support both CPU and PCI bus frequencies.

Product Highlights
The XRK32308 provides five output options: (1) output frequencies equal the input, (2) 1X and 2X frequencies on each output bank, (3) 2X clock at all outputs, (4) 4X and 2X frequencies on the outputs and (5) high-drive outputs for longer clock distribution. The device operates at up to 120MHz output frequencies with 75ps cycle-to-cycle jitter. The XRK32309 provides nine outputs segmented into two banks. The high drive version of the XRK32309 provides faster rise and fall time for higher performance applications. The device can operate as fast as 120MHz with 60ps cycle-to-cycle jitter. The XRK32308 and the XRK32309 both support commercial and industrial temperature ranges.

"The XRK32308 and XRK32309 devices can be designed into numerous applications due to their high level of flexibility combined with best-in-class characteristics," said Rob Raghavan, director of strategic marketing, Network and Transmission Products Division. "These two devices address the need for high fanout requirements and clock multiplexing capabilities within the telecommunication and consumer markets."
