New 2D/3D X-ray Inspection System with Digital Imaging Capability

STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT - FEINFOCUS announces the µCT-FOX 2D/3D X-ray inspection system with new Direct Digital Detector (DDD) imaging. The fully integrated 16-bit imaging subsystem provides crisp digital images with extremely high contrast in both 2D and 3D modes. The system instantaneously captures high-resolution images with film-like quality, even in real-time. This capability gives operators the most comprehensive solution for enhanced defect detection, making the system ideal for complex electromechanical component inspection applications.

The DDD features an X-ray detector with three image acquisition modes for maximum flexibility, automatic noise level reduction for sharp image quality, and a large, ultra-high resolution flat panel monitor for viewing flexibility. Operators can quickly and easily switch between the acquisition settings with a simple click of the mouse button, achieving image sizes of up to 1,888 x 1,408 pixels.

The fully programmable system is seamlessly integrated into FEINFOCUS Graphical User Interface (FGUI) version 2.2, allowing users to save digital images in JPG, TIF, or BMP formats. The new FGUI features AVI recording, and additional image processing operators such as an electronic film operator for advanced real-time X-ray inspection.

The µCT-FOX from FEINFOCUS combines award-winning high-resolution 2D X-ray technology with state-of-the-art 3D Computed Tomography techniques and high-end volume rendering software for the detailed inspection and analysis of complex devices in the 3rd dimension. The µCT-FOX is the first industrial X-ray inspection system to include functional 2D and 3D modalities in one system. Combining the flexibility, functionality, and ergonomics of a standard microfocus X-ray system with the ability to generate 3D imagery, the µCT-FOX visualizes the most inner components and precise structural modeling of a device. Cracks, voids, delamination, and other crucial anomalies can now be depicted in their actual 3D position, providing valuable insight into the design and manufacturing processes of these devices.

DDD imaging is an upgrade opportunity for existing X-ray imaging chains, and can be integrated into various systems and any X-ray tube assembly.

FEINFOCUS, a division of COMET AG, is an award-winning global leader in high-resolution X-ray inspection systems and tubes. As pioneers of microfocus and nanofocus X-ray inspection technology, the company developed the first patented "open" X-ray tube. FEINFOCUS offers both X-ray sources and radiation-shielded X-ray equipment, as well as full in-house services, such as failure analysis, component defect detection, technical support, and preventative maintenance for both FEINFOCUS and third-party systems. In 2000, the company was certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001.

FEINFOCUS was founded in 1982, and is headquartered in Garbsen, Germany. In the Americas, the company maintains headquarters in Stamford, CT and a Technical Resource Center in San Jose, CA.
