X-ray System checks for defects.

Press Release Summary:

VJ-1000 with Advanced Defect Recognition (ADR) inspects small, high-density semiconductor packages, PCB assemblies and bare boards. ADR image enhancement software adjusts local grayscale levels for each region eliminating operator subjectivity, showing practically all defects, and eliminating need for manual adjustment. Software provides Windows based image analysis including BGA, wire sweep measurements, area void measurement, and drill-offset analysis.

New VJ-1000 with Advanced Defect Recognition (ADR) Technology from VJ Electronix Provides High-Resolution X-ray Inspection

Bohemia, NY - VJ Electronix, a division of V.J. Technologies, Inc. and manufacturer of x-ray inspection systems, offers the VJ-1000, equipped with ADR technology, for inspection of small, high-density PCB assemblies and semiconductor packages. By eliminating the need for manual adjustments of contrast and brightness for different regions of the x-ray image, the VJ-1000 ADR software provides higher quality inspection and reduces costs by decreasing inspection time.

The ADR software is a sophisticated image enhancement tool for automatically adjusting the local grayscale levels for each region of the x-ray image, thus eliminating operator subjectivity. ADR enhances low contrast structures across attenuation gradients due to different thickness or materials. Since it does the enhancement in a single pass, the enhanced image shows practically all defect structures, eliminating the need for any manual adjustment. This directly leads to substantial cost reduction, as the inspection period for each part is significantly decreased. ADR also results in higher inspection quality as defect recognition is objective and defect visibility is substantially improved.

The VJ-1000 provides manual or semi-automated high-resolution images and superior magnification for inspection of semiconductor packages, PCB assemblies and bare boards. The programmable 5-axis manipulator in the VJ-1000 facilitates component/defect location by allowing the operator to rotate and tilt the substrate while adjusting the X/Y/Z axes. The system's proprietary Nexus 200 software provides Windows based image analysis including features such as BGA analysis, wire sweep measurements, area void measurement, and drill-offset analysis. All VJ Electronix systems include a Pentium 4 processor with a 20 Gig hard drive and a CD writer for instant image and data archival. All systems are network-compatible.

VJ Electronix offers custom engineering support and a worldwide network of applications engineers. The VJ-1000 complies with all U.S. and international standards for cabinet radiography systems, and conforms to all applicable CE directives.

VJ Electronix, a division of V.J. Technologies Inc. has more than 14 years of experience in the manufacture of real time x-ray systems.
