Linksys Announces New Wireless-G Print Server for Home and Small Office Environments

LONDON, December 21 -- Linksys(R), a division of Cisco Systems, Inc., the leading provider of broadband, wireless and networking hardware for the consumer and SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) markets, today announced the Wireless-G Print Server (WPS54G-UK) the latest Wireless-G device for the home or office.

The new Linksys Wireless-G Print Server connects a USB printer directly to the network, eliminating the need to dedicate a PC to print sharing tasks. The Print Server frees up the PC to do more useful tasks and removes the need for the PC to be switched on permanently.

The Wireless-G Print Server can be connected directly to any home or small office network by a 10/100 Ethernet cable, or wirelessly using either a Wireless-G (802.11g) or Wireless-B network. The wireless option allows for the printer to be positioned wherever the user chooses, without having to run cables. Once attached to the network, both wireless and wired PCs have access to printing on demand. The Wireless-G Print Server can also connect in ad hoc mode to print from visiting Wireless-G and Wireless-B PCs.

Key benefits:

- Connects with either 10/100 Ethernet or Wireless networks

- Shares a USB printer with everyone on the network -- works with most USB 1.1 or 2.0 printers

- No need to dedicate a PC to print server tasks, saving money and resources

- No need to leave your PC permanently switched on, saving power and energy costs

Robert Auci, director of Sales for Linksys in Europe says, "The vast majority of consumer printers taken home this holiday season are USB-enabled. The Wireless-G Print Server lets customers print from anywhere in the home or office, while providing multiple user accessibility, and the freedom of wireless networking. As the worldwide leader in providing wireless print servers, USB, and other wireless devices for consumers and offices alike, Linksys is in the leadership position to deliver this solution at an affordable price point."

The USB port is compatible with USB 1.1 printers, as well as printers supporting the new high speed USB 2.0 specification for even faster throughput. Data is protected by up to 128-bit WEP encryption, or pre-shared-key WPA. A user friendly Setup Wizard makes installation easy, the compact case fits anywhere, and the 3 megabyte print buffer size handles even large graphic-intensive print jobs.
