Screwless Wire Connector Provides Alternative To Soldering
HARRISBURG, Pa., November 21 - Tyco Electronics today announced the availability of a new board mount wire connector. The vertical screwless wire connector is a cross between a conventional board mount wire connector and a terminal block. The BUCHANAN brand product is a low cost part designed to give designers an alternative to soldered, wire-to-board terminiations. The product is initially offered in a six position configuration and is spaced on 3.5mm staggered centerlines. Other position counts are possible. Vertical screwless connectors can be used in lighting products, garage door openers, HVAC controls, security systems, vending machines and gaming products.
18 AWG solid or tinned stranded wire may be used with this product for poke in termination. The contacts may be re-terminated up to five times and carry a 2A/600VAC current rating. The connector features kinked contact legs to provide PCB retention before and during wave solder. Individual wire retention is rated at five pounds.
The housing is molded from UL94 VO rated PBT with the contact materials being a copper alloy bearing a tin-lead plating over nickel.
