Original Press Release:

Lincoln Electric Introduces Next Generation of Virtual Reality Welding Training: VRTEX® Engage(TM)

Self-contained, portable system sets up anywhere to introduce students to a career path in the skilled trades

Cleveland – With no need to use actual metal or gas or even a dedicated welding booth, Lincoln Electric’s new VRTEX® Engage™ weld training solution brings the ease of virtual reality arc welding training to a student’s desktop.

This standalone, foundational system sets up easily, anywhere, to help educators train welders more efficiently and engage students in exploring the possibilities of a welding career or considering degree programs in engineering or related fields.

The cost-effective VRTEX Engage addresses introductory welding curriculum, including safety, machine and process selection, welding procedure set-up, welding theory and more, incorporating valuable STEM features into the learning process. All of this is done in a fun, safe virtual environment, using the VRTEX welding transfer modes simulating short arc, spray and pulse welding.

The system includes a touchscreen monitor, virtual reality welding gun, tracking device and work surface. All are contained in a lightweight, portable, hardshell carrying case with rollers for easy transportation. It’s a self-contained learning environment. All users need to do is open the box and get started with hands-on practice.

With VRTEX Engage, students can view a demo of each weld, perform the weld and replay their own weld with the instructor. The system provides instant feedback and assessment of student welds, allowing educators and trainers to immediately evaluate each student’s understanding of basic welding safety, welding procedure set-up and more.

Using VRTEX Engage also can help reduce overall training program operating costs. There is zero waste thanks to no use of steel, electrodes, wire and shielding gas. And, with VRTEX Engage, there are no licensing requirements or annual fees for use.
