The Norwegian company Golar LNG (GoLNG) pushes forward with the first ever Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) Conversion of the 1975 built Moss Vessel Hilli with 125,000 m3.
Floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) refers to water-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations employing technologies designed to enable the development of offshore natural gas resources. Floating above an offshore natural gas field, the FLNG facility will produce, liquefy, store and transfer LNG at sea before carriers ship it directly to markets.
Although other companies are pursuing FLNG projects, with four currently under construction, GLNG work’s represents the first time an owner has attempted to convert a vessel for this technically-demanding use.
The conversion is being made at the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore and is expected to take 31 months, meaning the Hilli will be scheduled for delivery in early 2017. The Hilli will be converted into a four-train vessel with a modularized design that would give the converted vessel a total capacity of between 2.3 MMt/y and 2.8MMt/y with onboard storage of 125,000 cubic meters. Keppel has entered into a topside sub-contract with Engineering, Construction and Procurement Company (EPC) Black Veatch, which will employ its PRICO liquefaction technology.
The Hilli conversion will be stationed in Cameroon waters offshore Kribi under the agreement recently made between Cameroon's state owned oil and gas company Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures ("SNH"), Perenco Cameroon ("Perenco") and GoLNG. It is expected that production will commence in Q2, 2017.
The contract was awarded to WEG Electric Corporation (WEC) and includes 8 vertical motors of our W22XdB line, frame 400G, 280kW, 2 pole, 11,000V.
