Novar Controls Introduces Multi-Site Manager

Web-based system produces actionable data of measurable value

Copley, Ohio - November 2003 - Novar Controls Corporation announced today the release of its Multi-Site Manager (MSM) system. The fully interactive, Web-based system captures data produced by building management systems or plant equipment and processes it into useful packages-generating the industry's most advanced energy analytics.

Today's building management systems and plant equipment produce an overwhelming amount of data, making the role of a facility manager increasingly difficult. Yet, economic conditions require that decisions must be based on this data, creating a demand for "actionable information" and the end to a seemingly useless stream of disconnected data.

Multi-Site Manager provides facility managers with this much-needed actionable information. The application analyzes the daily transfer of site energy utilization data from all sites and compiles it into an easy-to-use system. Facility management personnel can use the Web application to:
o Review site energy consumption vs. profile site on a daily basis.
o Rank each site by any of the nine metrics.
o Focus on sites requiring the most attention to produce improvements.
o Compare a site's daily consumption over time to measure savings from corrective actions.
o Extend their review over longer and longer periods.

The system conducts both background and metric-related analysis. Through nine individual metrics reports, MSM enables the user to understand how energy is consumed at each monitored site. The metrics include:
o Energy Usage (kWh/ksf): A square footage (in thousands) normalized value to total measured consumed energy (kWh) for a given day for a specific site. It allows the facility manager to compare sites across multiple dimensions.
o Peak Power (kW/ksf): A square footage normalized value of peak power (kW) measured for a given day at the same site.
o Occupied-to-Unoccupied Energy Usage Ratio: This unitless number creates a standard for comparison for energy usage during occupied hours versus unoccupied hours.
o Occupied Site-to-Profile Energy Usage Ratio: Compares the energy consumed during occupied hours for the monitored site with a site selected as the "profile" or control site.
o Unoccupied Site-to-Profile Energy Usage Ratio: Compares the energy consumed during unoccupied hours with the profile site.
o Number of Overrides: Tracks the number of system-schedule overrides that were manually initiated at the site during a given day. This includes both Hand-Off-Auto (HOA) and Timed Overrides (TO), which typically result in an energy overuse during the time engaged.
o Load Factor (%): Determines the site's total energy-to-peak power load factor, an industry-standard energy-use metric.
o Figure of Merit (-1 to +1): (FOM) Takes measure of how well the site's power demand correlates with that of its profile.
o Cost ($): Tracks the cost differential of operating a site relative to its profile site for a given period. The nonnormalized dollar value is adjusted to reflect the full square footage of the site.

User-interactive, each report can be printed and saved. In addition, users can choose to view graphical representations of each category. MSM is designed with easy navigation in mind, using simple drag-and-drop menus and is compatible with any normal Web browser tool set.

Beyond reviewing specific days, Multi-Site Manager can be used to track any of the metrics over time (weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly).
