VSS Monitoring Optimizes Monitoring Infrastructure for MSF VoLTE Interoperability Event

MSF Event Advances Telecommunications Industry with Voice Traffic on 4G/LTE Networks

SAN MATEO, Calif. - VSS Monitoring, the world leader in Network Intelligence Optimization, today announced its participation in the MultiService Forum (MSF) Voice over LTE (VoLTE) Interoperability Event as the key monitoring vendor for lab testing at the Vodafone Test and Innovation Centre in Dusseldorf, Germany.

"To date, 4G has not been able to carry voice traffic, but that is all about to change," said Andy Huckridge, director of marketing at VSS Monitoring. "With VoLTE as one significant proposal by GSMA to carry voice on 4G/LTE networks, we are honored to have been selected as the only monitoring vendor to help advance the event, technology and industry."

In order to maximize the effectiveness of the lab test monitoring, VSS Monitoring provided its Distributed Traffic Capture System for traffic monitoring, and its Test Acceleration System for speeding up the lab testing. As the only monitoring equipment vendor to be invited to participate in the tests, VSS Monitoring provided a platform that captured traces of possible interoperability failures and inconsistencies to be reviewed after the event.

"We invited VSS Monitoring to participate due to its demonstrated support for the forward-moving development of VoLTE, validating the industry changing opportunity represented by the MSF VoLTE Interoperability Event," said Kyu-Ouk Lee, president of MSF. "VSS Monitoring's involvement played a critical role in monitoring, accelerating and optimizing the interoperability of VoLTE equipment, speeding the deployment of 4G Voice services."

The MSF VoLTE Interoperability Event validates key network interfaces that support multi-vendor operator deployment strategies for LTE/EPC/IMS technologies by identifying factors limiting new equipment interoperability with commercially available equipment from the perspective of vendors and operators. Backed by GSMA, the test results demonstrated that the GSMA technical recommendations for providing end-to-end VoLTE were mature and interoperable, however specific issues were discovered that will be the focus of future work.

About the MSF

The MultiService Forum (http://www.msforum.org) is a global association of service providers, system suppliers and test equipment vendors committed to developing and promoting open-architecture, multiservice Next Generation Networks. Founded in 1998, the MSF is an open-membership organization comprised of the world's leading telecommunications companies. The MSF's activities include developing Implementation Agreements, promoting worldwide compatibility and interoperability of network elements, and encouraging input to appropriate national and international standards bodies.

About VoLTE IOT Event 2011

The MSF will host the VoLTE IOT 2011 Event in the Vodafone Centre for Test and Innovation in Dusseldorf and the China Mobile Research Institute Lab in Beijing in September 2011. The event is backed by the GSMA following the launch of its global VoLTE initiative in 2010, which is supported by more than 40 leading organizations in the mobile space. The event builds on the major success of the previous Global MSF LTE Interoperability Event that took place during March 2010 and reflects the industry's drive to continue to deliver major carrier driven events that benefit all its members in their quest to keep pace with an ever faster moving industry. The MSF VoLTE Interoperability test event will focus on validating core network interfaces to ensure multi-vendor deployment strategies for LTE technology and will validate the MSF physical scenarios developed to incorporate 3GPP LTE/EPC technology and the GSMA's technical recommendations, focusing on Voice over LTE, with the support of China Mobile and Vodafone.
