Agilent Technologies FrameScope Pro Handheld Ethernet-Performance Analyzer Accelerates VoIP Service Turn-Up and Troubleshooting

Tester Reduces Time-to-Resolution in VoIP Service Troubleshooting, Provides Unambiguous Service Level Verification, Documentation

ORLANDO, Fla., BICSI, Booth 615, Jan. 23, 2006 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced its VoIP test kit for the N2620A FrameScope Pro. The handheld Ethernet performance analyzer is the most compact Gigabit Ethernet troubleshooting and RFC 2544 network performance benchmarking tool in its class. Capable of generating traffic up to full gigabit line rate and equipped with optical and electrical ports, it provides end-to-end Ethernet testing across the entire network infrastructure needed for the provisioning of triple-play services.

The new VoIP testing capability helps network installers and service providers to quickly and more efficiently deploy voice services to Ethernet-based networks. Network qualification that goes beyond bandwidth measurement ensures a smoother transition to VoIP, and FrameScope Pro provides the visibility of those network conditions that directly affect the voice quality.

Operator-independent quality of experience (QoE) measurements based on MOS (Mean Opinion Score) and R-factor, as defined by ITU-T G.107, make the verification and documentation of service level agreements efficient and unambiguous. Fewer troubleshooting tickets and shorter time spent at the customer site pay off quickly.

The tester allows users to set up a full-duplex VoIP call between two points and to perform voice-quality tests using either live audio or pre-recorded speech. To facilitate VoIP service turn-up, the FrameScope Pro VoIP emulates a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) phone at any network access point. VoIP calls between two FrameScopes are possible even without a VoIP service infrastructure in place, such as an SIP server (RFC 3261).

"Triple-play service deployment benefits enterprise organizations looking to gain more functionality, productivity and operational expense savings, and is the choice for service providers who desire to simplify infrastructures and decrease cost while maintaining a highly reliable quality of service," said Werner Berkel, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Photonic Measurement Division. "Using FrameScope Pro helps avoid bad surprises when turning up VoIP services by resolving quality of service issues earlier."

Benefits of FrameScope VoIP include:

o Unique Autotest feature for both troubleshooting and network pre-qualification, which delivers detailed test results with minimum configuration effort.

o Upgradeability to VoIP testing for existing FrameScope Pro analyzers, which protects customer investments.

o Predefined performance test suites, which allow operators to run tests easily by pressing a single button.

o Remote control via any Web browser, allowing for central troubleshooting, monitoring and reporting, which eliminates costly dispatches.

o Support for PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet), which accommodates dial-in configurations.

o Active and passive Autodiscovery, which help to automatically identify network resources and rogue stations.
