Cognex Adds Color and High-Resolution Offerings to In-Sight Family of Industrial-Grade Vision Sensors

Orlando, FL and Natick, MA, October 27, 2004-Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ - CGNX), the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems and vision sensors announced today at the Allen-Bradley Automation Fair that it has added the In-Sight 5100C color vision sensor and the In-Sight 5101 high-resolution model to its 5000 Series of industrial-grade vision sensors.

The In-Sight 5100C is designed to perform a wide range of color inspection tasks in a number of major industries. For example, it can be used in the automotive industry to identify motor camshafts by color; in the food and beverage industries to verify the color of packages; and in the electronics industry to verify the correct position of color LEDs at electrical test stations.

The In-Sight 5101 is a high-resolution (1024 x 768) version of the 5100 for high-accuracy gauging applications in automotive and other general assembly applications that require increased resolution for inspecting small objects, or capturing images of larger parts.

"The In-Sight 5000 Series product line has been well received by customers because of its outstanding performance and rugged design," said Jim Hoffmaster, President and Chief Operating Officer for Cognex. "With the new 5100C and 5101 industrial-grade models, customers can deploy high-performance color inspection and high-accuracy gauging wherever it's needed on the factory floor."

As with other In-Sight 5000 Series vision sensors, the 5100C and 5101 are self-contained, industrial-grade vision sensors that meet IEC specifications for shock and vibration, and achieve an IP67 (NEMA 6) rating for dust and wash-down protection - without the need for a separate industrial enclosure. These units also include the unique and powerful vision spreadsheet interface and In-Sight Explorer software that provide advanced tools to simplify application development and network administration. PatMax(r), the industry's performance standard for feature and object location, is available as an option. The In-Sight 5100C and 5101 are available now.
