Viscosity Measurement Chip eliminates onset of early turbulence.

Press Release Summary:

Mounted on m-VROC viscometer, E chip attains 2,000,000 1/s measurements of water-like viscosity or 1,000,000 1/s for various injket inks (~4 mPas). Defined, micro-fabricated uniform flow channel maintains laminar flow at elevated shear rates, producing accurate measurements. Viscosity measurement is further facilitated by full scale pressure of chip.

NEW Chip Measures Viscosity Up To 2,000,000 Reciprocal Seconds!

A New MEMS-Based Paradigm for Liquid Flow Management

RheoSense Inc. has introduced its NEW E chip that expands the range of viscosity measurements with significantly greater shear rates.

Mounted on the m-VROC viscometer, the E chip attains 2,000,000 1/s measurements of water-like viscosity or 1,000,000 1/s for various injket inks (~ 4 mPas).

Industrial processes such as inkjetting, coating, printing and injection include high shear flows. Paper coating, inkjetting, and engine lubrication engage shear rates over 1,000,000 1/s.

With conventional viscometers, viscosity measurement at high shear rates has been very difficult. With conventional instruments, the flow becomes turbulent or unstable that invalidates measurements. Measurements have to be repeated, using more samples and other resources.

Using the E chip eliminates the onset of early turbulence. The well-defined, micro-fabricated uniform flow channel of the E chip maintains the laminar flow at high shear rates, producing accurate measurements. This viscosity measurement is facilitated by the higher full scale pressure of the chip.

In summation, the NEW E chip provides a greater range of shear rates, is more stable and more accurate, which makes the process more consistent and productive.

About RheoSense Inc.
RheoSense Inc., is a global viscosity measurement equipment manufacturer. Its VROC (Viscometer-Rheometer-On-a-Chip) technology is the only MEMS microfluidic chip-based viscometry technology in the world. This innovation provides accurate, repeatable viscosity measurement using today's technology to reduce device footprint and sample size and is being readily adopted in BioPharmaceutical, Lubrications, Ink and other applications.
