Oracle Unveils Standards-Based Mobile Virtual PBX Service for Increased Flexibility in Delivering Telecommunication Services

Carrier-Grade Hosted PBX Offering is Key Element of the Oracle(R) Service Delivery Platform

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Sept. 25 / -- Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) today announced the general availability of the Oracle(R) Virtual PBX, a key element of the Oracle Service Delivery Platform (Oracle SDP). The Oracle SDP extends Oracle's leadership in Oracle Fusion Middleware for network-centric services by providing a standards-based platform to develop carrier-grade services. The Oracle SDP will provide a suite of out-of-the-box, revenue-generating services that can be easily deployed by operators and service providers. Through support for standards such as SIP, SIP Servlets, and Parlay/Parlay X, the Oracle SDP enables the development of network-centric services and the portability of those services across today's networks as well as next-generation IMS-enabled and VoIP networks.

Among the first out-of-the-box services of the Oracle SDP, the Oracle Virtual PBX is delivered as an operator-hosted PBX service. It addresses the communication needs of small, medium and large enterprises. Features include Queues and Attendant functionality, which enable effective and efficient handling of incoming calls without the need for complex changes to the underlying network topology or architecture within an enterprise. Hunting Groups and Auto attendants features, combined with the ability to make specific feature packages available to individual enterprise customers, provide network operators with a powerful tool to deliver innovative new communication services to their enterprise customers. The implementation of the Oracle Virtual PBX, using standard J2EE and Web technologies, simplifies administration, configuration and management, thereby helping to lower the total cost of enterprise communications.

"Network operators are finding that the ideal way to address fixed/mobile convergence is to build their infrastructures and services on top of standards-based IT platforms like the Oracle SDP," said Vittorio Viarengo, vice president of development, Oracle. "Rapid service deployment on today's networks with a future-proof architecture for easy migration is essential. The Oracle SDP and services like the Oracle Virtual PBX represent Oracle's commitment to help solve the problems of communication service providers and network operators through a proven, standards-based, carrier-grade platform as well as out-of-the-box services that are immediately revenue generating."

"Network operators and service providers are facing increasingly challenging demands around time-to-market, speed of deployment, as well as technical requirements including quality and stability," said Timo Varsila, Head of Service Development and Product Management, DNA Finland. "As a service provider who has to enable the rapid delivery of next generation communication services to both consumers and to the enterprise, without compromising on quality, we are pleased by the availability of the Oracle Virtual PBX service as a component of the Oracle SDP. IT- and Web- standards-based platforms for developing network-centric services are here to stay, given the flexibility and time-to-market advantages they provide."

Oracle SDP Provides Standards-based Foundation
Open standards are at the heart of the Oracle SDP. A combination of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) design principles combined with highly productive development environments that are familiar to Web developers allows the Oracle SDP to bring Internet application design principles to network-centric services. At the same time, the Oracle SDP builds on the core infrastructure that is provided by Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Carrier Grade Framework, thus enabling carrier-grade reliability, real-time performance, and cross-network application portability.

Availability and Pricing
