Virtual Backup Appliance operates at speeds to 5 TB/hr.

Press Release Summary:

Able to backup tens of terabytes of data with no noticeable system impact, esXpress v3 for VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3 does not require dedicated Windows host to proxy backups. PHD Technologies has also announced its VBA technology now supports LZOP compression.

MORRIS PLAINS, N.J., June 6 -- PHD Technologies, Inc. (PHD), the leading innovator in virtual backups, today announced the latest release of esXpress v3 for VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3 is now on average 40% faster over previous versions.

"With our latest release we exploit as well as show off the power of the VMware platform", said Ken Harbin, president of PHD. "Today's powerful processors coupled with the efficiency of VMware's VM kernel allows esXpress to backup tens of terabytes of data, with no noticeable system impact."

Unlike traditional backup solutions that require a dedicated Windows host to proxy the backups, the Virtual Backup Appliance, or VBA, is the only distributed backup solution for VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3. This distributed nature allows the product to take advantage of the excess resources available within the virtual farm itself as well as leverage the power of VMware's High Availability (HA) and Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) features.

"And now with the ability to select the LZOP compression engine when using esXpress, the result has been users reporting backup speeds of up to 5TB/hour and more, with no modifications to the underlying physical infrastructure", said Harbin. "This allows administrators to make a complete 100% backup of even the largest virtual farms, every single day".

PHD has also announced that esXpress v3.1 has entered final beta and will available July 1. In addition to the ability to backup templates, this version will include our popular Auto/Mass Restoration feature that allows administrators to restore an entire datacenter quickly and easily. This feature also allows for scheduled replication to a disaster recovery site allowing for a continuous warm standby datacenter.
