Viewdle, Inc. Announces Beta Releases of 'Name' Widget and Election Coverage Tracker

Consumer Tools Powered by Facial Recognition-Based Video Search Technology

NEW YORK, Jan. 30 - Viewdle, Inc. (www.viewdle.com), the destination for searching facts in video, today announced the beta releases of Name Widget and Election Face-Off. Name Widget (http://viewdle.com/name_widget.html) enables publishers of online publications, blogs and websites to add a visual representation of people referenced in their text. Election Face-Off coverage tracker viewdle.tv/election/index.html) is an online destination for watching candidate coverage, viewing coverage statistics and comparing coverage across multiple news outlets. Both consumer-focused beta releases leverage Viewdle's multi-modal video search platform that uniquely combines indexing technology for text, audio and actual video to deliver a semantically-accurate video search experience.

Name Widget provides an easy way to add Web 2.0 elements to primarily text-based destinations. By using Name Widget, users can bring their text to life and create a more interesting experience for visitors. When Name Widget is applied to a name appearing in a site's text, the name becomes a link and visitors can mouse over the name to see a brief, soundless video appearance of the person referenced. At present, Name Widget links click-thru to a Viewdle-powered people search of Reuters' content. Future releases will let users point the link to their URL of choice. Name Widget is free and can currently be added to online publications, websites, Blogger and TypePad by inserting a simple html code. The next release will enable Name Widget to work with additional blogs, as well as multiple social networking sites. Name Widget functionality will soon be expanded to include recognition of names in user-generated content so that people can widgetize video appearances of themselves, family and friends.

Election Face-Off coverage tracker provides facts about candidate appearances such as coverage across stations, per station, number of segments, length of segments, and more. Visitors can make their own correlations regarding a candidate's coverage and performance in polls and primaries. Full-length video clips are available for Reuters' content only, though Viewdle is quickly building commercial relationships with additional content providers. The election coverage results trace back to November 2007, when Viewdle's indexing of all the included channels began.

Both Name Widget and Election Face-Off work by referencing Viewdle's proprietary Person Reference Database, which is constantly expanding in-line with Viewdle's ongoing indexing efforts. Viewdle looks inside every frame of video to index, identify and deliver factual, contextually-relevant results at a level of granularity not possible with existing video search functionality, most notably through pioneering facial-recognition technology.

Viewdle launched in September 2007 as part of the TechCrunch40 and was a "Best Technology Innovation/Achievement" Crunchies 2007 Award finalist. Viewdle technology is currently used to power white-label indexing and searching within BCE, iTV and Reuters. The company will soon be releasing additional widgets and a consumer destination site, Viewdle.tv. For more information, please visit www.viewdle.com
