Kasenna Breaks the 130,000 MPEG-4 Stream Barrier with MediaBase 8.2 XMP Video Server Software Release

Enables Metro-scale 1 Million+ Subscriber MPEG-4 Deployments

DALLAS (TelcoTV), Nov. 6 / -- Kasenna, The IPTV Company(TM), today announced the availability of its MediaBase XMP 8.2, the latest version of its video-on-demand (VOD) server software platform, which now delivers industry-leading 10,000+ MPEG-4 streams per 1 Rack-Unit (RU) high servers and 120,000+ MPEG-4 streams in a single rack of these servers -- representing an over 40% increase in streaming performance compared to the previous release. With Kasenna's Stream Clustering technology, a cluster of 16 servers loaded with the MediaBase XMP 8.2 software now delivers an aggregate capacity of more than 160,000 MPEG-4 streams.

The XMP 8.2 release of MediaBase Video Server software also delivers:

o 40%+ increase in streaming performance
o 10 GigE NIC Support with 95%+ efficiency and utilization
o N+1 server redundancy in a cluster of servers
o 1-for-1 Network Interface Card (NIC) redundancy using Kasenna's High Performance Network (HPN) Streaming Software

Kasenna's industry-leading MPEG-4/H.264 streaming performance, 10GigE NIC support, server and storage scalability afforded by its clustering software, and resiliency delivered with its server, storage and NIC redundancy now enable metro-scale MPEG-4 deployment for over one million subscribers with just one rack of commercial off-the-shelf server platforms running the MediaBase XMP 8.2 software.

A key building block of Kasenna's PortalTV(TM) 2.0 solution, the MediaBase XMP 8.2 video server software platform, with its industry-leading price/performance, will help service providers slash deployment, management and operating costs for metro-scale IPTV deployments.

"This system demonstrates that video-on-demand systems can scale to support very large numbers of subscribers with a completely manageable number of servers," said Bob Larribeau, senior analyst at the Multimedia Research Group. "It also shows that Kasenna's software, riding on the mainstream server hardware technology curve, can produce a high-performance, scalable and reliable VOD system."

Using all mainstream and off-the-shelf components, including standard Linux servers, file systems, GigE/10GigE network cards, and SCSI/SAS storage, MediaBase XMP 8.2 uses software technology breakthroughs to achieve its industry-leading performance.

"With the technology breakthroughs in our MediaBase XMP 8.2 software platform that have enabled us to break the 130,000-stream barrier, we have further extended our technology and market leadership in the video server market," said Mark Crandon, Vice President of Product Management and Planning. "With our patented techniques for pre-caching, hot-spot management, load averaging, and predictive usage, the MediaBase platform yields streaming performance, density, capacity and quality of service second to none."

Kasenna also announced at the show:

a) The availability of its PortalTV 2.0 product suite -- comprising its
LivingRoom 2.0 IPTV Middleware, LivingRoom IPTV Middleware Software
Development Kit (SDK), MediaBase 8.2 Video Server software, vFusion
Content Management software, and ViewNow Content Aggregation services.

b) PortalTV Partnership program with a ground-breaking MPEG-4/H.264 IPTV
Middleware, Video Server, Encoders, DRM, and Set Top Box infrastructure
demonstration for delivery of Broadcast TV, Video-on-Demand (VOD), Free
On Demand, Subscription VOD, StartOver TV, Network PVR, Networked
Games, Integrated voice, data, and video applications, such as Caller
ID, and Internet applications -- weather, maps, etc. -- designed using
Kasenna's LR SDK.

"While other IPTV solution vendors are still struggling with their initial MPEG-4 lab and field trials, Kasenna and our PortalTV partners are leading the deployment of MPEG-4 based IPTV video servers world-wide with eight service providers that have deployed our MPEG-4 PortalTV product suite, "said Kumar Shah, CEO of Kasenna. "The availability of our MediaBase 8.2 software platform and the Metro-scale MPEG-4 deployment capacity we deliver with it are clear indicators that MPEG-4 and H.264-based IPTV solution is ready for prime time."
