Werth Introduces Copier Like Video CMM

December 23, 2002

ORCHARD PARK, NY. Werth America, Inc. announces the introduction of the new Flatscope, a 2 dimensional video coordinate measuring machine that follows a copier-like format.

The Flatscope turns the standard video measuring machine concept, with table below and camera above, up-side down. Built into a table, the system has a window where the workpiece is placed. A cover closes over the part and provides profile illumination. The CCD camera and optics are beneath the glass, and a ring light underneath provides surface illumination for the measurement of features where transmitted light is not possible. An automatic scan of the full window is made, and an image of the part is available for measurements in the WinWerth Metrology software. As an alternative to the full scan, a part-specific program can be prepared.

The Flatscope is a simple to use shop ready gage ideal for measuring stampings, gaskets, extruded sections, EDM product and tools, O-rings and molded products. Untrained operators need only to place a part in the work area and start the program. The Flatscope is well suited to first piece inspection tasks. Software options provide 2D scanning of free form contours, and CAD profile comparisons in the Werth Bestfit program. Maximum measuring range is 400 x 200mm, and parts can be up to 100mm in height. Choices of fixed or zoom lenses provide overall 2D accuracy down to 9µm (.00035").
