Very Low Dropout Regulator maintains 45 mV of dropout.

Press Release Summary:

With input voltage capability down to 0.9 V, Model LTC3025 delivers up to 300 mA of output current. It offers micropower operation with 54 µA of quiescent current, and less than 1 µA in shutdown, maximizing runtime in handheld applications. Unit optimizes stability and transient response with low ESR ceramic output capacitors as small as 1 µF. Available in 6-lead DFN package with exposed pad, VLDO includes current limiting and thermal overload shutdown.

Original Press Release:

300mA VLDO Operates from VIN=0.9V and Maintains Only 45mV of Dropout

Milpitas, CA - December 15, 2004 - Linear Technology Corporation announces the LTC3025, a 300mA Very Low Dropout Regulator (VLDO) with input voltage capability down to 0.9V. It has a very low dropout voltage of only 45mV while delivering up to 300mA of output current. The low VIN capability is important, as many emerging handheld applications are using a 1.5V main bus rail, and require output voltages from 1.25V to 0.5V to drive low voltage microprocessor and microcontroller cores. The LTC3025 can also be used for 3.3V/5V down to VOUT ≤1.20V, since it has a 0.4V reference. In addition, the LTC3025 offers micropower operation with only 54uA of quiescent current, and less than 1uA in shutdown, maximizing run time in handheld applications.

The LTC3025 regulator optimizes stability and transient response with low ESR ceramic output capacitors as small as 1uF. Other LTC3025 features include ±2% voltage accuracy over temperature and supply load, fast transient recovery, current limiting and thermal overload shutdown. Its shutdown disconnect feature disconnects both VIN and VBIAS from the output in shutdown mode. The LTC3025 regulator is available in a low profile 6-lead DFN (2mm x 2mm x 0.75mm) package with an exposed pad, offering a very compact and thermally efficient solution.

The LTC3025 is packaged in a 2mm x 2mm QFN-6 and is available from stock. Pricing starts at $1.65 each for 1,000-piece quantities.
