Mori Seiki Hitech Delivers the New VS5000 Vertical Machining Center

Irving, TX, June 3, 2003 - Mori Seiki Hitech has brought to market its newest Vertical Machining Center - the VS5000. The VS5000 is poised to become the definitive standard in first class machine tool performance, machining precision, productivity, and scalability, all with easy setup.

The VS5000 is equipped with the SEICOS Sigma18M CNC control that delivers outstanding convenience and the same ease-of-use to which Hitachi Seiki users have grown accustom. Every VS5000 includes rapid setup functions with the workpiece probe and tool setter.

The VS5000A has X, Y, and Z-axis travels of 31.5" x 20.1" x 20.1" and with the VS5000B you can cut even larger workpieces with travels of 40.2" x 20.1" x 20.1". Both models are available in either a 40-taper or 50-taper version.

Non-cutting time on the VS5000 is reduced with the use of a shorter spindle and higher feed acceleration and deceleration, including a Z-axis with a maximum speed 2.7 times higher than previous models. Lubricant consumption has also been significantly reduced compared with previous models by utilizing oil-free roller guides and an oil-bath ATC. MTTR (Mean Time To Repair), an index of machine maintainability, has been reduced, as well as machine downtime, with the enhanced accessibility of components in the machine construction.

A complete lineup of peripheral equipment is available to support automation, including an automatic pallet changer (APC). Built and designed by Mori Seiki, the APC fully integrates with the machine, and provides the durability, repeatability, and safety traditionally delivered by Mori Seiki. The APC boosts productivity by enabling you to load and unload parts, as well as set up jobs, while the machine cuts.
