Bridgeport Expands and Improves Specifications of Machining Center Line
(Shelton, CT) Bridgeport Machines, Ltd., Shelton, Connecticut, has broadened its vertical machining center line with a range of C-frame models and large bridge-types, a new 5-axis configuration, and a high speed model for machining electrodes and hard metals. "The machines have been enhanced in many ways including more horsepower, faster rapid traverse and acceleration rates, and higher spindle speed capabilities," says Andrew McNamara, U.S. Sales Manager.
All spindles across the range feature high retention draw bars providing 2700 pounds of tool holding force. An effective thermal compensation system is standard which improves the machines' volumetric accuracies. "The C-frame range features box way construction on all but the smallest model," says McNamara, "and our larger machines are bridge-type designs, offering more stability and rigidity in the Y-axis and support the X-axis table across the full length of travel. We are now offering our customers a wider range of machines with significantly improved specs and excellent pricing. The Bridgeport line provides great value for the money."
Customers can choose GE Fanuc or Heidenhain CNC systems. According to the company, Bridgeport VMCs have been the top selling machining centers in Europe for many years.
Following is a brief capacity overview of the vertical machining center line:
VMC 610 xp2 -- machining envelope of 24" x 20" x 24" X, Y, Z axes, 1,700 ipm rapid feed rates, 6m/sec2 accel/decel rate, up to 25 hp spindle power with up to 24,000 rpm, and accommodates a max load of 1,100 lbs.
VMC 800 xp2 -- features box ways, larger in X than the 610 at 32", 1,700 ipm rapid feed rates, 6m/sec2 accel/decel rate, up to 37 hp spindle power, 24,000 rpm, 1,650 lbs. load.
VMC 1000 xp2 -- also has a box way construction, 40" x 24" x 24" X, Y, Z envelope, 1,700 ipm rapid feed rates, 6m/sec2 accel/decel rate, up to 37 hp spindle power, 24,000 rpm, 2,000 lbs. load.
VMC 1500 xp2 -- Bridge-type machine primarily aimed at mold and die and aerospace markets, 60" x 32" x 20" X, Y, Z, 1,100 ipm X, Y feed rates, 787 ipm Z feed rate, 4m/sec2 accel/decel, up to 25 hp, 24,000 rpm, 3,300 lbs. load.
VMC 2000 xp2 -- Larger in X than the 1500 at 80", 787 ipm Z feed rate, 4m/sec2 accel/decel, up to 25 hp, 24,000 rpm, 3,300 lbs. load.
The new fully integrated 5-axis machine, the "5ax 400" featuring a trunnion style table system providing the additional A and C axes. The envelope is 32" x 24" x 20". Rapid feed rate is 1,700 ipm, spindle speeds up to 24,000 rpm powered by a 25 hp spindle. Max load is 440 lbs.
The new "HSC 500" is a small bridge-type, high-speed machine dedicated to machining electrodes, either graphite or copper, and hard metals. The accel/decel rate is 8.5m/sec2. Its X, Y, Z envelope is 20" x 16" x 16". Linear scales are on all axes for highly accurate positioning. A 12 hp spindle provides up to 40,000 rpm. Max load is 660 lbs., and it is offered with the Heidenhain iTNC 530 control. The HSC 500 is designed ready to be integrated with automation systems.
