Chiron Unveils Heavy Duty, Large Capacity VMC

CHARLOTTE, NC (October 15, 2002) -A new vertical machining center with robust, high-performance CNC capabilities is taking a position of prominence in the Chiron America line of products. The MC 536 offers flexibility, high performance and good machine stability for heavy-duty milling.

The new machine features a large working area that does double duty. The fixed table can be used as two separate areas for pendulum machining, with machining on the left and loading on the right, or as one area covering the total X-travel range for long parts. An optional automatic opening system for loading and unloading heavy parts or fixtures by crane offers many possibilities for future flexibility.

Depending on the required application, one or two working spindles can be used to achieve optimal production. The Chiron MC 536 also features digital direct drives in all axes and a large tool magazine with intelligent tool management for faster tool changes and increased productivity. The magazine will handle up to 54 tools using ISO (CAT) 50 or HSK-A 100 styles.

Operators find the MC 536's enclosed working area extremely user-friendly. An efficient chip removal system ensures perfect evacuation of chips from the workspace. X-axis travel range can be up to 133" (3400mm) or more if needed. Y and Z limits are 21.65" (550mm) and 20" (510mm) respectively with traverse speeds of 1575"/min (40m/min) on all axes.

"Chiron America is focusing on High Profit Manufacturing and every aspect of our new MC 536 System supports that theme," said Bob Pernsteiner, vice-president of Chiron America. "With spindle speeds of 8000/10000 rpm and a chip-to-chip time of approximately 4.5 seconds, the MC 536 puts heavy-duty milling on the fast track. It's really something to see."

Headquartered in a new building and manufacturing complex in Charlotte, NC, Chiron America is a supplier of German- and American-built high-speed single- and twin-spindle vertical machining centers and fully automated turnkey production cells for markets in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
