Original Press Release:

Cincinnati Machine's V5-2000, on Display at IMTS 2002, Delivers Improved Aluminum Part Processing at an Affordable Price

CINCINNATI. OH (September 4, 2002) - Manufacturers who recognize aircraft producers' need for improved part processing will find Cincinnati Machine's 5-Axis V5-2000 affordable and easy to use. The V5-2000 vertical machining center can be seen in action at IMTS 2002 Booth #8101.

Designed to reduce manufacturing costs, improve lead-times and produce better quality parts, the V5-2000 offers leading technology at a cost-effective price, making it an ideal entry-level machine for companies new to 5-axis processing.

Companies using 5-axis machining can cut part-processing time as much as 70 percent by reducing set-up, part handling and programming time on multi-face or contour machining jobs. Parts can be rough and finish milled with linear, angular, curved, circular or helical features, all performed by one machine.

Combining speed, precision and agility, the V5-2000 includes a twin-tilt spindle featuring a class-leading ±40° sweep in the A and B axes. The advanced construction of the innovative, ballscrew-driven 2-axis head provides a high degree of dynamic stiffness, as well as superior rotary speed and torque with a wide range of motion for machining complex aluminum parts.

The standard HSK 63A taper high-performance spindle delivers 15,000 rpm at a duty-rated 26 kW level for high-speed cutting, while the optional 10,000 rpm CAT40 spindle enables aggressive metal removal.

The V5-2000 moves through its 2,032 x 762 x 770 mm X-Y-Z machining range with agility at 24 m/min rapid traverse and 15 m/min feed rates. The large 2,286 x 765 mm work table, supported over four widely-spaced linear ways, sustains up to three tons of parts and fixtures, and provides a work surface and rigidity that can process large parts, long or narrow parts, or multiple small parts. The spacious enclosure envelops the entire work area to contain chips and coolant splash generated by high-speed cutting.

It is powered by the latest in CNC technology, the next generation SINUMERIK 840D from Siemens. The digital NC system for virtually all applications, the SINUMERIK 840D offers modularity to meet all metal cutting demands quickly and easily.

The modular 32-bit microprocessor CNC continuous path control manages high-speed 5-axis contour machining operations with ease. Housed in a compact 50 mm wide unit with the SIMODRIVE 611D drive system, it integrates a SIMATIC S7 programmable controller and Profibus DP distributed I/O link. Together, a choice of intelligent operator panels running Microsoft Windows NT® and a handheld pendant with integrated handwheel allow the operator full control over all machining functions.

Cincinnati Machine also offers a 3 meter version of the V5 and will introduce the new V5-4000 Bridge Type Vertical Machining Center to visitors at IMTS 2002.
