FKI Logistex White Systems Introduces 2100- and 2200-Series Vertical Carousels

Automated storage and retrieval systems provide a variety of options for high-density storage applications in low-footprint environments

(Kenilworth, NJ: December 09, 2003) White Systems (www.whitesystems.com), an FKI Logistex® (LSE:FKI.L) member company and market leader in designing and building high-speed automated material storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), introduces the new 2100-Series and 2200-Series medium-duty vertical carousels. Offering an ergonomic design, security and safety features, and high-throughput reliability, the White Systems 2100 and 2200 vertical carousels enable efficient, automated, and cost-effective high-density, small-footprint storage-space utilization.

The 2100 and 2200 come standard with various levels of control, from the simplest manual up/down control to software-capable controls with integral VCIT (Vertical Carousel Interface Terminal, which includes a backlit LCD with tactile keypad). The high-level control software is totally compatible with all White Systems, Inc. software packages. The 2100 and 2200 also feature optional counter-mounted pick-to-light displays (in 2-, 6-, and ten-character versions) to further increase inventory management accuracy. In addition, optional Ethernet ports enable high-speed communications over a LAN.

Products in the 2100 and 2200 are stored fully enclosed within the carousels. When not in use, carousel access doors can be locked. In addition, options such as automated single access doors, automated mini-doors, magnetic strip swipe card, and other biometric security devices may be added to the 2100 and 2200 to achieve the highest level of storage security. Built for reliability and performance, the White 2100 and 2200 feature high-quality mechanical and electrical components.

Ergonomically designed to eliminate operator bending, stretching and climbing, the 2100 and 2200 vertical carousels bring stored products to the operator instead of requiring the operator to move to the product. Counter-mounted light bars direct the operator to the exact product location quickly and efficiently.

UL/ETL® listed, the 2100's and 2200's main access openings are equipped with touch bars and polarized photo eyes to prevent accidental carrier movement during picking and storing. In addition, service access panels are electrically interlocked to prevent carousel activation when they are open. A spring-set motor brake stops and prevents carrier movement during power interruptions, and an optional emergency crank (using a conventional cordless drill) provides access to stored products in the event of a power failure.

Designed primarily for office applications, such as file storage and for light-industry applications, the 2100 offers a maximum pan size of 18 ½" deep x 102" wide. The 2200, which has a maximum pan size of 24 ½" deep x 118" wide, is built for a variety of industries, including pharmaceutical, electronics, semiconductor and clean-room applications. The medium-duty 2200 offers 334 cubic feet of storage in a typical 12-pan, 18-inch-pitch unit, configuring to a 64-inch-deep, 134 ½-inch-wide, and 140-inch-tall total equipment volume.

Standard features for the 2100 and 2200 include a bolted-together modular design with frame components that can be disassembled for limited clearance installations; single- or dual-tiered pans; an externally mounted controller; and a heavy-duty scissor-arm conveyor mechanism with a fully enclosed stabilizer track and single-piece drive shaft. Optional features include a dust cover, halogen down lights, courtesy outlets, a step-down transformer, and additional access openings.

Unit capacity for the 2100 and 2200 is 10,200 pounds, gross load. Each pan has a maximum storage capacity of 400 pounds and can be moved at 25 feet per minute. The 2100 and 2200 operate at a noise level of 60 dB/A. The units are designed to perform in a temperature range of 40°F to 120°F.

"The 2100 and 2200 vertical carousels offer a range of capabilities and options we don't see currently being offered in the market," says Lenny Lelchitsky, vertical carousel product manager for White Systems. "Their rugged design, high reliability, and superior cubic utilization make these units an excellent choice for customers with high-density storage requirements. With the variety of models, features, and capabilities offered in these carousels, the 2100 and 2200 are the perfect addition to White's vertical carousel product line."
