The New VLT AQUA Drive from Danfoss Water & Wastewater

The New VLT® AQUA Drive from Danfoss Water & Wastewater Provides Lowest Overall Cost of Ownership for Water and Wastewater Applications

MILWAUKEE, WI -- Danfoss Water & Wastewater introduces the powerful new VLT® AQUA Drive. Engineered with specially designed software for water and wastewater applications, this new variable frequency drive provides seamless installation, commissioning, operation and system maintenance in the water and wastewater industry.

The new VLT® AQUA Drive significantly improves system efficiency in applications such as water supply, treatment, distribution, pressure and level control, irrigation, and wastewater applications such as pumps and blowers where speed, pressure and/or level control are critical. Its modular design offers the highest flexibility in option selection with fast delivery of a fully factory tested, customized drive with a number of additional plug-and-play options available for simplified upgrades as application needs evolve.

The VLT AQUA Drive offers 98% operating efficiency along with automatic sleep mode functionality, Automatic Energy Optimization and flow compensation to provide considerable energy savings to the user. It is available in NEMA/UL Type 1, NEMA/UL Type 12 (IP54/55) or NEMA/UL Type 4X (IP66) enclosure solutions and features a compact design with built-in features for easy integration into even the tightest installation spaces. The drive includes a number of pump-specific features to reduce operational costs and protect the pumping system.

Intelligent auto tuning allows the drive to monitor and learn from system reactions to drive corrections and adapt quickly to achieve precise and stable operation. Empty Pipe Fill mode enables controlled filling of pipes to prevent water hammering, bursting pipes and blown sprinkler heads from excessive pressure surges. End-of-curve detection can trigger an alarm or shut down the pump in the event of a break in the line.

The drive will detect when the pump is running dry and will shut it down to prevent damage, while a sleep mode keeps pump wear and power consumption to a minimum. Flow compensation automatically reduces pressure setpoints as appropriate to save energy, and an initial ramp feature allows the pump to quickly accelerate to the minimum frequency while eliminating excessive wear and damage. Up to 20 preventive maintenance events can be scheduled based on the integrated Real-Time Clock. Patented sensorless pressure or flow control enables pump manufacturers to control these variables without the use of sensors. Additionally, a unique "payback" indicator continuously exhibits the amount of time remaining before the investment in these drives pays for itself.

Danfoss is a leading manufacturer of precision mechanical and electrical components, with locations in more than 120 countries. Danfoss created the VLT name when they introduced the world's first mass-produced VFD in 1968, and the name has set the standard for high-performance, quality variable frequency drives ever since.
