Thermo Scientific Pierce® Protein Assay Methods Included for Accurate Quantitation
MADISON, Wis., (June 12, 2008) - Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today announced the release of new embedded software (firmware) for the Thermo Scientific BioMate 3 and GENESYS 10 Bio Spectrophotometers. Designed specifically for researchers in the life science laboratory, the BioMate 3 and GENESYS 10 Bio provide built-in assay methods for added convenience. This new instrument firmware improves instrument performance, convenience and flexibility by including new and improved pre-programmed assay methods for protein and nucleic acid analysis.
The new firmware includes assay methods for many Thermo Scientific Pierce colorimetric protein assays. Pierce protein assays facilitate accurate quantitation of total protein in solution. The Thermo Scientific Pierce BCA and Coomassie Plus (Better Bradford) Assay Kits offer convenience, ease of use and precise protein estimation. In addition, firmware's pre-programmed methods can easily be altered to meet specific laboratory needs. Multiple copies of a method can be saved if slight variations are desired.
The new firmware's interface for pre-programmed nucleic acid assays has also been improved. Individual pre-configured methods are available for DNA, RNA and ssDNA measurements. The oligo calculator feature, which allows you to determine the molecular weight, theoretical Tm, and absorption concentration factor for user-entered sequences, has also been updated to facilitate more complex analysis of oligo nucleotide sequences.
An improved sample measurement algorithm provides better instrument performance without a noticeable increase in measurement time. This enhancement significantly improves the accuracy of measurements made with small volume cells (microcells) and the VERSA fiber optic probe accessory. A dramatically reduced instrument boot-up time allows the user to start taking data within two minutes of turning on the instrument, increasing laboratory productivity.
