Stanley Cuts Through the Great Outdoors with New Sport Knife

SUMMARY: Stanley introduces the Stanley® SportUtility(TM) Outdoorsman(TM) knife, a unique, multifunctional knife combining a 3½-inch folding sport blade with a retractable utility blade. The folding sport blade features a metal thumb stud for easy
one-handed opening and closing, making it an ideal cutting tool for the avid outdoorsman who enjoys activities such as boating, hunting, fishing or hiking. The utility knife blade features a quick change button and is easily set in three different
positions allowing users to quickly find the proper depth for cutting a variety of building materials on the construction site, in the workshop or at home.

Las Vegas, Nevada, January 21, 2003 - Stanley (NYSE: SWK) introduces the Stanley® SportUtility(TM) Outdoorsman(TM) knife, a multifunctional knife featuring a 3½-inch folding sport blade at one end and a retractable utility blade at the other. The design of this multipurpose knife makes it ideal for the avid outdoorsman who may also occasionally use a utility knife on
the jobsite or for a weekend home improvement project.

With a convenient metal thumb stud, an outdoor enthusiast can open and close the serrated 3½-inch sport blade with one hand in a quick and safe action. The fixed folding sport blade is
made of corrosion resistant, cutlery stainless steel and cuts deeper than a standard pocketknife.

The utility blade can be changed quickly with the touch of a button and without the use of other tools. Once locked in place, the blade can be adjusted to three different set positions for the user to easily change the depth of the cut. The knife is reliable and accurately cuts building materials such as insulation, drywall and roofing shingles. For added safety, only one blade can open at a time and the sport blade can only be opened when its thumb stud is first pushed in and then up.

"The SportUtility(TM) Outdoorsman(TM) knife is designed to meet all the needs of the avid outdoorsman who also may be a tradesperson or home improvement enthusiast," said Bill Merrill, Global Director of Stanley Cutting Tools Business Unit. "This tool is highly functional and easy to use, whether it's for filleting fresh fish by a campfire or cutting roofing shingles on the jobsite."

The knife offers users outstanding comfort, performance and reliability with features such as comfortable rubber panels, cast metal construction and a patented interlocking nose to prevent the body from splitting.

The SportUtility(TM) Outdoorsman(TM) knife comes complete with a reinforced nylon sheath with snap closure and is able to house up to 10 heavy-duty utility blades. It will be available at the
end of 2002 exclusively at Stanley Preview Dealers and has a suggested retail price of $24.99. To find one of the over 8,500 Stanley Preview Dealer hardware stores within a specific area, please visit www.stanleyworks.com.
