Sierra Wireless Compass(TM) 888 and Compass 889 USB modems offer global high-speed mobile broadband connectivity in an industry-leading compact, stylish design

VANCOUVER, Nov. 12 /-- Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ:SWIR -)(NASDAQ:TSX:)(NASDAQ:SW) today introduced the Compass(TM) 888 and the Compass 889 USB modems. With industry-leading small size and functionality, the Compass 888 and Compass 889 USB modems allow notebook computer users to stay connected while travelling around the globe.

With potential top speeds of 7.2 Mbps downlink and capability for 5.76 Mbps uplink on an HSPA network, users can send a presentation, upload photos or edit their travel blogs in seconds. The difference between the two models is found in their network compatibility - the Compass 888 supports HSPA networks utilizing the 850, 1900, and 2100 MHz frequency bands, while the Compass 889 supports 900, 1900, and 2100 MHz frequency bands. Networks in Europe are expected to begin utilizing the 900 MHz frequency band within the next year. The Compass 888 and Compass 889 USB modems are backward compatible with UMTS, EDGE and GSM networks around the world, providing freedom to roam.
