Original Press Release:

Fairchild Semiconductor's USB 2.0 Transceivers Offer Industry-Leading 15kV ESD Protection in Ultra-Small Package

Fairchild is the first supplier to offer drop-in transceiver migration from USB1.1 to 2.0

South Portland, ME - September 30, 2004 - Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) introduces two USB 2.0 transceivers offering exceptional ESD performance and compact packaging that are specifically designed for today's ultra-portable and consumer applications. The USB1T1102 and USB1T20 offer designers an "off-the-shelf" USB 2.0 solution for electrical compliance, while providing high ESD protection ratings of 15kV. The USB1T20 device is the world's first alternate source (drop-in) replacement for transceiver migration from USB1.1 to 2.0. Both transceivers can easily withstand adverse ESD events, eliminating the need for external ESD protection. Their ultra-small MLP packaging (3 X 3mm 16-lead or 2.5 X 2.5mm 14-lead), combined with built-in protection features, make these products ideal for applications such as cell phones, digital cameras and portable video devices.

"Fairchild's new USB transceivers offer industry-leading performance, simplifying designs and eliminating the need for additional components," said Chris Ferland, Fairchild's USB marketing manager. "These products minimize time-to-market, save board space and reduce total implementation cost-all of which are vital considerations for today's ultra-portable applications. Fairchild's newest transceivers make it easy for designers to transition to the newest 2.0 requirements by offering drop-in replacements for USB1.1 applications."

Fairchild's USB1T1102 full-speed (FS) transceiver incorporates onboard voltage regulation and voltage level translation. This device consumes less than 6.6mW of power from the local supply and is well suited to battery-powered applications. The USB1T1102 offers the first drop-in replacement transceiver for standard 1102 MHBCC package footprints, as well as significant space savings with its ultra-compact MLP packaging.

Fairchild's USB1T20 is a low-speed (LS) and full-speed (FS) USB-compliant transceiver and is the first 2.0 transceiver offered without a voltage regulator. This device offers drop-in electrical migration from USB1.1 to 2.0 and is an excellent low-cost option for space constrained applications that do not require a voltage regulator. USB1T20 is available in both 14-lead MLP and 14-lead TSSOP packaging.

Fairchild's product portfolio includes other products to support USB interface applications, such as analog switches and voltage translators.
