Tripp Lite High-Density Rackmount UPS Systems Ensure Availability for VoIP Applications

Chicago, IL (March 31, 2005) Tripp Lite, a world-leading manufacturer of power protection equipment, has introduced a new suite of 5000VA UPS Systems to ensure the availability of server and networking hardware. Tripp Lite's new UPS Systems include a SmartPro® line-interactive model (SMART5000XFMRXL) and two SmartOnline(TM) true online models (SU5000RT3U and SU5000RT3UHV).

IP Telephony deployments, especially within existing networks, demand more power and longer runtime than many network managers appreciate. Where data networks often require just minutes of runtime during a utility outage to preserve data, those same networks supporting Voice Over IP (VoIP) need to run for hours to ensure that phones work and 911 service remains available to users. "Unfortunately, since most networks have wiring closets that are already packed with equipment, adding a physically large UPS is just not possible," according to David Slotten, Tripp Lite's UPS System Director of Product Management. "To ensure that phones operate during a power outage, upgrading to a Tripp Lite UPS can actually save space while supporting all high and low voltage hardware for as long as needed." Beyond the wiring closet, Tripp Lite's new 5000VA UPS Systems are also ideal for high-density server support, including blade servers.

Tripp Lite's new 5000VA UPS Systems provide 100% reliability and availability for high-end, multi-layer switch and router installations. All models provide extended runtime capability (with optional external battery packs) to support continuous telephone operation in the event of an extended power outage. All units include 20- and 30- amp locking receptacles typically required by larger network switches. No electrician is required for installation of any of Tripp Lite's new 5000VA UPS Systems. The UPSs simply plug into a standard L6-30R wall receptacle.

Tripp Lite's new 5000VA UPS offering includes a SmartPro® line-interactive model (SMART5000XFMRXL), which occupies just three rack spaces (3U) and is ideal for simultaneously powering both 208V and 120V power supplies at full power. An integrated eight-outlet switched PDU enhances battery management during power outages by turning off less critical loads and extending available runtime for remaining loads. The PDU can also be used to remotely reboot individual devices by toggling power on and off.

Two SmartOnline(TM) true online models are also available (SU5000RT3UHV and SU5000RT3U) which add the power-conditioning benefits of an online, double-conversion topology. SmartOnline models remove harmonic distortion, fast electrical impulses, frequency fluctuations and other hard-to-solve power problems not addressed by other UPS systems. Occupying five rack spaces (5U), the SU5000RT3UHV model powers 208V devices. Occupying seven rack spaces (7U), the SU5000RT3U model includes a step-down transformer and twelve 120V receptacles to power both 208V and 120V devices.

All models include PowerAlert Power Management Software, which allows administrators to view a variety of utility voltage and UPS System operating conditions as well as perform system reboots, orderly call-processing/voice-messaging system shutdowns and more. PowerAlert Software provides administrators with a single JAVA-based user interface. The commonality within this design approach makes it ideal for managing VoIP applications of all scales across multiple OS platforms. PowerAlert Software has met the Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice and Video Integrated Data) Partner Program test criteria for interoperability with Cisco Media Convergence Servers running Cisco CallManager 3.3(4) and 4.0(2). Multiple communications ports and an accessory slot (which accepts an optional SNMPWEBCARD) provide remote management connectivity.

All three new Tripp Lite 5000VA UPS Systems are now shipping and available through all major distributors. Specifications and ordering information are available at www.tripplite.com. Additional product literature including new VoIP/Internet Telephony white papers is also available on Tripp Lite's website.
