Radisys Announces Industry's First Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA®)-Compliant Universal PMC Processing Module

The RadiSys ATCA-1000 enables 56 Processors in a single 23" AdvancedTCA Shelf

CHICAGO - June 21, 2004 - Today at SUPERCOMM, RadiSys Corp. (Nasdaq: RSYS) announced its ATCA-1000, an AdvancedTCA® Universal PMC Processing Module that enables AMC-like (Advanced Mezzanine Card) implementations using standard PMCs (PCI Mezzanine Cards). The first ATCA-1000 configuration is a Quad CPU Server Module that hosts up to 4 processors. The module offers customers a highly scalable processor solution for applications such as softswitches (SIP servers) and application/media servers. The ATCA-1000 can also be used for distributed stack processing in network elements such as Radio Network Controllers.

The RadiSys ATCA-1000 is a single slot module with a baseboard containing four PMC sites, up to 4 Processor PMCs (PrPMCs) and a Rear Transition Module (RTM). The PMC sites have flexible onboard inter-connectivity and configuration (Monarch and non-Monarch) capability, which means OEMs can develop a variety of AdvancedTCA modules using standard off-the-shelf PMCs and PrPMCs. The processor density permits linear scalability of processing nodes, allowing customers to expand capacity in smaller increments and realize a reduction in upfront acquisition costs. Using the RadiSys ATCA-1000 customers can also create AdvancedTCA modules using their existing PMCs, thus preserving their code base and accelerating their time to market. Ultimately, this results in a lower TCO (total cost of ownership) through commonality in their modules and code base.

"Equipment providers can take advantage of the time and performance advantages that allow AdvancedTCA technology based platforms allows by utilizing the mezzanine card capabilities," Kevin Johnson, director, Intel Communications Alliance, Intel Corporation said. "By developing the RadiSys ATCA-1000 built on Intel Architecture processors, RadiSys has effectively extended the capabilities of AdvancedTCA server blades."

"We designed the ATCA-1000 to help customers easily migrate their current PMC-based solutions to AdvancedTCA, and implement today," said Venkataraman Prasannan, senior director at RadiSys. "Using our ATCA-1000 it is possible to configure multiple PMC-based solutions in AdvancedTCA, first of which is the server module. Future configurations will enable other functions such as SS7/SIGTRAN signaling, IPSec, storage and media processing."

About the ATCA-1000

The RadiSys ATCA-1000 has four PMC sites that can be connected in three ways: PCI, Gigabit Ethernet and IPMI for manageability. The configuration offers tremendous flexibility with capabilities like Monarch/non-Monarch and PMC, PrPMC and PTMC. The ATCA-1000 is the only blade available today that can accommodate 56 processors in a single 14-slot shelf. RadiSys currently enables a suite of Pentium III PrPMCs ranging from 450 MHz to 933 MHz and will enable other industry standard PMCs - Processor, Storage, I/O, etc. RadiSys designed the blade with modularity beyond AdvancedTCA (board and RTM). The PMC configurations offer remarkable flexibility and include rear I/O through a PIM.

Pricing and Availability

"The pricing of the ATCA-1000 will vary depending on the configuration and options. The price for a single processor version starts at $4357. The ATCA-1000 will be available in Q3'04." OEM quantities and discounts are available. For more information, or to place an order, please contact RadiSys at 800-950-0044.
