Union Training Facility's Environment Demands Rugged Welding Equipment
Pipe Fitter's Union United Association (UA) Local 597 Training CenterStudents receive intensive hands-on welding experience at the Pipe Fitter's Union United Association (UA) Local 597 Training Center in Mokena, Ill., coming out of the program trained in stick, TIG, MIG and flux-cored welding processes. Last year, the center ordered 100 Lincoln Electric Invertec® V275-S units for stick and DC TIG welding, replacing the same number of units from a Lincoln competitor. The machines originally installed by the competitor were repaired multiple times over the course of 30 months because of repeated dust filtration.
"We were having problems with the original machines in our hostile training environment," explains Mike Doyle, an instructor at the center. "It's extremely hot and very close inside the booths. And what's worse, there's a lot of dust with metallic particles in it. We needed machines constructed with internal protection. We liked the construction both inside and outside on the Invertec® V275-S. The electrical components are better protected and less vulnerable to short circuits. Plus, the compact size fits well into our booths."
The equipment change has worked out so well, that center officials are looking to include additional Lincoln machines in its future expansion plans.
