Uninterruptible Power System can be upgraded on line.

Press Release Summary:

S5K Modular(TM) UPS can be field enhanced from 4 to 16 kVA and N+x parallel redundancy can be added while system continues to protect its load. Each modular component, including 4 kVA power modules, batteries, and controllers, are hot-swappable, making it simple to increase power, extend backup runtime, or add redundancy. Applications include large-scale data handling systems, such as network servers, enterprise telecommunications systems, LAN gateways, and RAID arrays.

Sola-Hevi-Duty UPS Features Hot-Swappable Modular Design to Allow Field Upgrades

SKOKIE, IL, April 22, 2002 -- To ensure customers of maximum uptime and total protection from unexpected power disruptions, Sola/Hevi-Duty, a leading supplier of power quality solutions, has introduced its new S5K Modular(TM), an Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) with the scalabiity required for dynamic, fast-growth environments. By taking advantage of the S5K Modular's convenient field upgradeability, users can increase VA ratings from 4 to 16kVA, significantly boost run-times, and add N+x parallel redundancy.

"The S5K Modular's scalability optimizes it for large-scale data handling systems, such as network servers, enterprise telecommunications systems, LAN gateways and RAID arrays," said Mike Johnson, Product Manager, Sola/Hevi-Duty, who noted that budget-conscious IT departments will greatly appreciate the S5K Modular not only for its reliability, but because it maximizes return on their technology investment by encouraging a longer service life.

MODULES PROMOTE COST-EFFECTIVE GROWTH

Just a few standard modules are all that's needed to expand the S5K Modular, allowing it to grow alongside the systems it protects -- a more cost-effective alternative than purchasing a newer, more expensive UPS.

Each of the modular components, including the 4kVA power modules, battery modules and system control modules, are hot-swappable, making it simple to increase power, extend backup runtime, or add redundancy while still providing superior power protection to the load.

The modules feature self-diagnostic capabilities to simplify maintenance and trouble-shooting. In the event a module should fail, it automatically takes itself off-line while the other modules continue to support the connected equipment.

Depending on the user's need fir expansion or redundancy, Sola/Hevi-Duty offers its S5K Modular UPS in a choice of two chassis to build on: the "A" chassis, which accommodates up to 8 modules, and the "B" chassis, which has the capacity for up to 12 modules. In most standard (non-redundant) applications the "A" chassis provides sufficient expansion capabilities.

Other features contributing to the outstanding performance of the Sola/Hevi-Duty S5K Modular UPS include: multiple and simultaneous communication ports; a variable input voltage range that minimizes battery operation resulting in increased battery life; an automatic internal bypass for maximum availability of output power, continuous sinewave output to allow full compatibility with a wide variety of power supplies; and power factor corrected input to reduce reflected distortion while optimizing utility power.

WARRANTY

The Sola/Hevi-Duty Modular UPS is backed by a two-year limited warranty including factory start-up, on-site labor and parts.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
