Rugged Uninterruptible Power Quality

Rugged, Rack-Mounted Products Ship to First Customers

LINDON, UTAH, August 1, 2002 - Power Innovations International, Inc. announced today the first shipments of its Q-RX series of rugged uninterruptible power quality (UPQ(TM)) products. The three new 19-inch rack-mounted products (1, 2, and 3 KVA) exceed military standards for severe shock, vibration and environmental conditions. The true online Q-RX products, which include backup batteries, set new standards in size, specifications and pricing.

Power Innovations' Rugged UPQ products are intended for OEMs and system integrators who must provide clean power and battery backup capability for mobile electronic equipment and computer systems. The size and weight of the Q-RX units make them ideal for trucks, ships and aircraft where commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment is required. The breakthrough pricing for the 2U sized, 1 KVA system starts at $3,397 and includes batteries, cables and management software.

"The Q-RX product line represents the first time a new-generation UPQ product has been made for the rugged requirements of military and commercial mobile applications," says Glen Lowry, head of Power Innovations business development. "We are able to utilize our UPQ technology for those rugged applications that need consistent, high quality power - it is a real breakthrough in size and pricing for rack-mounted systems."

Meets or Exceeds "Mil-spec" Standards
The Q-RX series products passed shock and vibration tests up to 30 Gs -- meeting or exceeding MIL-STD-167 for vibration over a range of 10 to 500 HZ. The non-operational vibration tests provide up to 2G forces for multiple hours on three axes. The units are also operationally tested under random G forces for hours at up to .5Gs on three axes. The Q-XR series meets or exceeds MIL-STD-810E for shock testing. In each axis multiple pulses consisting of several milliseconds are applied up to 30Gs at levels ranging from 2Gs to 30Gs.

Thermal and Humidity Testing
The Q-XR series meets or exceeds MIL-STD-810 for temperature range and thermal shock testing. The units were operationally tested from 0 degrees C to +50 degrees C and non-operationally tested at temperatures down to -55 degrees C and up to +65 degrees C. The Q-XR was operationally tested in a humidity chamber with non-condensing humidity from 20 to 90 percent.

"Power Innovations products are not only complementary to our other ruggedized lines, but they are also essential for ensuring that clean power is delivered in poor environments. Not to mention, they are perfect for the mobile applications we work with every day," says Larry Snyder, president of SPSI of Laurel, Maryland. "When you are integrating hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of embedded computing products, quality power backup is an absolute requirement to protect our high-performance signal processing applications."

About UPQ Systems
Traditional UPS systems focus on power backup. UPQ systems from Power Innovations focus on the critical issues of power quality and power management, while still addressing power backup. Standard advanced features of UPQ systems include, but are not limited to the following:
o High Resolution Sine Wave Output
o Isolation (minimum dual-stage)
o Power Conditioning
o Filtering
o Advanced Display Monitoring/Control
o Superior Remote Monitoring/Control
o Output Protection
o System Protection
o Bypass Protection
o Modular Design for Easy Serviceability
o Better Quality for Price
o Versatility of Size and Shape
o Hot-swappable Batteries
o Smaller Size and Weight

Management tools available for UPQ systems provide Internet Protocol (IP) control and monitoring access. Power Innovations UPQ systems were selected for the very successful 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
