Ultrasonic Label Sensor works with every label type.

Press Release Summary:

UltraLRD eliminates need for sensor changeover. During operation, high-frequency signal is transmitted from bottom of sensor, through label web, and received in top of sensor. Amount of signal reaching receiver is dependent on amount of material through which it travels. With registration repeatability of 0.2 mm and switching frequency of 500 Hz, sensor accurately detects increased signal level which occurs during gap between labels.

New Label Sensor Technology Works With Every Label Type; Eliminates Changeover Headaches

ST. PAUL, MINN., Sept. 25, 2004 - Lion Precision, the world's market leader in high-tech label sensors, eliminated the need for sensor change during changeover with the release of the new UltraLRD ultrasonic label sensor. This new label sensing technology is equally effective on all labels, regardless of the label or printing materials.

"Until now, different label sensors were required for different types of labels," according to Nick Marchuk, sales manager, Lion Precision. "The packaging industry has been calling for a universal label sensor for years - now it's here," he added.

The UltraLRD uses ultrasonic technology. During operation, a high-frequency signal is transmitted from the bottom of the sensor, through the label web, and received in the top of the sensor. The amount of signal reaching the receiver is dependent on the amount of material through which it travels. The sensor accurately detects the increased signal level which occurs during the gap between labels. This method works well and provides registration repeatability of 10.008" (0.2mm) and a switching frequency of 500Hz.

Ray Herbst, chief engineer at Lion Precision said, "Ultrasonic technology is a great solution for a universal label sensor. Optical technology, which dominated until the 1990s, can't detect clear labels. Capacitive technology, which solved the clear label problem, is unreliable with some metallic labels. Ultrasonic can do it all."

The UltraLRD is designed as a simple plug-in replacement for existing Lion Precision LRD sensors. It has the same mounting footprint, wiring, and outputs as the rest of the LRD sensor line.
