Original Press Release:

Portwell's New Type II Compact COM Express Module Features Single/Dual Core Intel Atom Processors and Onboard NAND Flash

FREMONT, CALIF.-American Portwell Technology, Inc., (http://www.portwell.com) has expanded its COM Express product portfolio to include Intel second-generation single core and dual core Atom processors. With its companion PCOM-C210 developer carrier board, the new compact (95mm x 95mm) PCOM-B215VG Type II Compact COM Express Module from American Portwell Technology, Inc., (http://www.portwell.com) is perfect for low power systems and handheld mobile devices in applications such as medical healthcare, industrial control, gaming, portable devices and COTS military market.

Based on Intel Atom processor N450 (single core), D410 (single core) and D510 (dual core), PCOM-B215VG features Intel 82801HM I/O controller, up to 4GB DDR2 SDRAM, onboard 4GB NAND Flash upgradable to 8GB, one Gigabit Ethernet, dual independent display via VGA and LVDS, eight USB ports, wide input voltage support (8V to 18V) and support for EIDE and SATA. Expansion capability includes five PCI-E x1 lanes that can be configured as one PCI-E x4 and four PCI-E x1, four PCI, LPC interface and a high definition audio interface.

American Portwell Technology is a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the embedded computing market and a member of the Intel Embedded Alliance. Portwell's COM Express product portfolio now includes PCOM-B210VG (915GM), PCOM-B211VG (945GM), PCOM-B212VG (GME965), PCOM-213VG (GM45), PCOM-214VG (Atom N270) and the new PCOM-B215VG (Atom N450/D410/D510).

Compact size, greater storage capacity and broader applications
According to Jimmy Chang, American Portwell Technology's product marketing manager, the low power consumption and reduced heat output of Portwell's new PCOM-B215VG Type II Compact COM Express module means it can function as both a fanless and battery-operated configuration. "PCOM-B215VG is the latest in a long line of products we are developing using the Intel Atom processor," Chang explains. "We chose the N450, D410, D510 processors and 82801HM platform because that provides the most cost-effective solution with low power and dual core processor technology. In fact," Chang adds, "all of these Atom processors can be supported on the same compact board. Add in a potential 8GB of onboard NAND Flash for greater storage capacity, as much as 4GB memory support and wide input voltage support of 8V to 18V for broader applications, and the new PCOM-B215VG becomes the perfect solution for customer applications that require compact size, low power systems and handheld mobile devices."

Short time to market and long product life cycle
Frank Shen, American Portwell Technology's product marketing director points out that the architecture of the new PCOM-B215VG Type II Compact COM Express module safeguards development investments and lowers total cost of ownership. PCOM-B215VG can help minimize current and future design risks. It can help development time and costs during initial phase of development, while helping to achieve a faster time-to-market, a simplified future upgrade path, scalability and an increased application lifecycle. In addition, Portwell also can provide services to customers on the carrier board design and development, review schematics and BIOS customization.

"PCOM-B215VG is the latest in a line of feature-centric products from Portwell," Shen confirms. "It offers ultra low power, small form factor, compact size, shorter time-to-market, onboard NAND Flash, wide input voltage support, great memory support and up to five PCI-E x1 lanes for a compact true System-on-Module. What's more," Shen continues, "our customers not only benefit from American Portwell's ability to consistently provide the most up-to-date technology and features, but they also gain peace of mind from the long life cycle support inherent with every Portwell product."
